At the other end of the X5 scale, I picked this up on Friday… 2005, 3.0d, 112k kms, original purchase invoice, every ITV (mot) and every service and repair bill. It’s an SE, with 18” wheels, electric sports seats, individual leather in light beige (much better than black out here), xenons and nav.
Cars like this are rare as hens teeth in Spain… typically, cars are already completely battered at 10 years old and have 250k kms+…. Yet prices are completely bonkers.
Needs 4 tyres… not because the current ones are illegal, but because they been through so many hot summers they are dried out and cracking. Booked in Tuesday.
The headlights were in pretty poor shape too… surprised the passed the ITV (though they were an advisory). Spent a couple of hours yesterday wet sanding and machine polishing them and will clear coat them in the week.
Before
After
Drives ok… quiet, comfy seats… feels it ages a bit with old fashioned heavy steering, but still has a good turn of pace and rides decently on 55 profile tyres and no Msport suspension.
Will double up as a daily and a van for work.

Dug this out of the air duct under the passenger seat- I was getting an irritating noise like something was sliding around every time I turned a corner and some forum threads helped me track it down to the air ducts in the floor. Apparently BMW didn’t think to add a lip or mesh to stop stuff getting in…
Was expecting to find a pen or some coins but I’m mostly glad to be rid of the noise! It’s a shotgun cartridge for clay shooting for anyone none the wiser, clearly a pastime of the previous owner as I went once years ago and was awful.
That's a weird one - never seen a shotgun cartridge with two brass ends before!! Might be worth a look inside? Was expecting to find a pen or some coins but I’m mostly glad to be rid of the noise! That’s a great find in Spain! Well done- colour, history, the lot. Imagine finding one in the UK in SE spec with small wheels…Cars like this are rare as hens teeth in Spain… typically, cars are already completely battered at 10 years old and have 250k kms+…. Yet prices are completely bonkers.

Two weeks into E46 ownership:
1. Oil filter, air filter, spark plugs changed today + air conditioning service (the compressor is working fine but the air flow was not cold) all fixed and air is icy cold.
2. The c-pillar flap covers were not working and remained in this position:
After watching a few YouTube clips I discovered the return springs (both sides) had long since departed. An ebay purchase of two new springs (£11.82) and some skinning of knuckles later all is sorted. The springs attach to the underside of the flap covers, and over the years the retaining holes have cracked, but with a couple of washers and some gentle 'persuasion' they are working perfectly.
3. DVLA have been very efficient - I received the new owner V5 within 2 days and the tansfer of my late Mum's number plate to the car was completed at the beginning of this week.
4. Next on the list is to clean and treat the roof:
Frustratingly, the fix on the offside c pillar trim has failed - retaining clip on the flap has snapped off:1. Oil filter, air filter, spark plugs changed today + air conditioning service (the compressor is working fine but the air flow was not cold) all fixed and air is icy cold.

Well, that was a week of fun. The 2012 640i I picked up last week is now throwing the Drive Train error, please drive moderately error. Complete with a EML light....
Any idea what the usual fix is for something like this? Car judders, limp mode, cut out, errors about stop/start not working .

I'd be taking it up with the supplying dealer.

But also as said; take it back to the dealer you bought it from ASAP and get them to rectify it
Ordered a few bits….
Re-ordered the rear dampers for my car from Autodoc which have been dispatched on the same day. Hopefully they’ve actually sent what I ordered rather than a substitute without letting me know like last time.
Ordered a load of bolts plus spring mounts etc. so it looks like I’ll finally be getting round to lowering the 335i.
I also finally managed to get hold of the chaps at Royal and have ordered a new wheel (alcantara with silver stitching) plus a new handbrake gaiter (alcantara) and grip (perforated nappa leather). Hopefully they’ll be able to get it done before closing for two weeks on 15th July.
