OP you do realise that for the price of genuine CSL parts from BMW you would be able to upgrade your 318i to an M3 and probably insure it also.

Do you know what irony is? Have you read the initial post - the OP can't get original parts so what d'you think he'll do? Oh look he's considering second hand parts off another barried E46. So yes, cheap CSL tat.

OP - love the last jpeg, your 1.8 will look banging with orange CSL alloys.
When I initially posted the OP was attempting to get hold of original parts, hence what I wrote, so let's stick the handbags away laugh

Congrats OP, a nice gift smile

OP, is the gifted car a coupe or saloon? (E46 coupes had a 'Ci' suffix)

E46 M3 (+CSL) has flared arches. Don't think the bits you want will be simple bolt on without other extensive mods.

Buy some nice alloy wheels (Alpina, BMW OEM etc), perhaps upgrade to leather interior (plenty of sets on ebay), otherwise I'd leave as is tbh.

Any photos of the car?
^^ what he said.

I was looking a gen parts with the exception of the front bumper which will be big money. The ebay car was an idea of something to do last resort if the BM dealer shuts me out completely.

Pictures if you want when I'm home but no doubt more piss taking will ensue...

Sorry that was starting to grate...

OP, I may only have a 520i, but I would be absolutely off my rocker to try to turn it into some M5 rep. It never will be, I don't want it to be, and I'd look like a twonk.

Just don't do it. Don't be that guy.

More likely because if you stick M on it people will buy it and to hell with it even having anything to do with Motorsport. Certainly gets my interest I like M cars because they look good, not interested if they won a race 25 years ago with a car that had the original M ethos.

You could really annoy everyone and stance it. Some 10x18s and coilovers would annoy a few on here I reckon. laugh

I don't think you should go full CSL rep. But you can still dress it up with a few OEM+ bits.

I did think about a slight stretch on the tyres like the dub guys do, it would allow a cheaper tyre to be fitted to a nice wheel.

When you initially posted the OP was attempting to get hold of original parts - and couldn't, hence my post. Not sure what's funny.

Don't bother getting the outside done.

If you want it nice, find a 2nd hand leather interior from M3 and swap that over, and possibly upgrade the wheels & suspension to make it more fun to drive.

Just don't bother with a replica look imo.

Buy this OP http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151273421824

I agree with BMW's policy. They make a limited run car and presumably made an extra X parts for spares which will and have in some cases run out. Do you not think the original CSL owners should be entitled to these parts first? How exactly do you think the spare parts process works? For a limited run car they can't just fire up the Carbon Fibre roof or bumper or bootlid making machine they have at the back of the plant in Munich so they have to guess when they make the vehicle how many extras they'll need. The machines or moulds have probably been reused or repurposed or made obsolete in the 11 years since the car was released.

There are quite a few people finding out the hard way that parts aren't available now and cars are sitting idle while a solution is found or simply being given the answer "sorry sir, we simply don't have any more roofs but perhaps this steel one will do? We've run out of crankshafts but we've heard you can have one made at this aftermarket company"

So yeah, I don't think you should do it and if you did, it's just as bad as an MR2 made to look like a 355 or dipping plastic things to look like carbon fibre. The only real reason (and even if it isn't, a lot of people will think it is) is to deceive others into thinking you have something you don't.

That's right but there's no need to fk up a decent car just to scream out to anyone who'd notice, that you can't afford the real thing.

Also thinking on if I used a copy bumper then the car would not be a genuine M sport car and resale might be awkward.
