Sorry, but it wouldnt be a 328i e36 if i was spending that.
why?
Because thats my perrogative, in the same way as its other peoples perrogative to drive a 335d.
Thanks for the info, I was trying to enquire as to your reasons for not buying an E36 for £3k but as it appears to be secret we'll leave it at that then wink

Well summarised. Some people seem to make inflammatory comments just to provoke a reaction.

Its not a secret, just not going to get into the debate of what i would run if i was spending £3K on a car. Its each individuals choice, in the same way as its dbx335d's choice to spend £45K how he wishes, yet some people have tried to kick him around for that.

did you read the thread which caused him to post this one?

FYI it's nothing to do with his choice of car

Yeah, and yes he did start thrashing around a bit, however there were comments directly pointed at him and at the car, both on that post and on this one, which i just think were unnecessary.

I've done the best part of 20k of town, motorway, A&B roads, car parks, DIY runs, etc in 911s on less than £600 if that counts smile
I think its generally accepted that the 911 is the everyday Supercar whereas the F355 is... not.

What a load of tosh! its an incredible car. Listen, they've been building Ferraris and other fast cars for decades, but its only recently become possible - only in the last 5 years? - to build a car with the attributes of a 335d, they are incredible cars. No, i wouldn't pay 45k to have one as my everyday car and i wouldn't really want any ferrari as my everyday car either, come to that.

Even a 45k 911, it seems such a shame to use such a nice car as an everyday car, and i think it would depreciate at the same rate for a while, and again, they've been building 911's since '63.

But a fast car that is reliable, nice looking, handles well and does 500 miles on a tank? Nope, they've only recently discovered how to build them so to describe them as unremarkable in every way shows breathtaking lack of knowledge imo.

It depends what you mean by "nice". Leaving budget for your chassis upgrades and 540i means a sub-£30k 911 which is going to both look and feel fairly well used (and yes I have driven porsches of this age). Then there's the issue of the general expense of running two cars, the possibility of big out of warranty bills etc.

Don't get me wrong, I like 996's (I used to own one myself). They're very nice cars, though not the be-all and end-all of motoring that a lot of aspiring owners seem to think. My £35k would (and has been) spent on a 335i/d rather than the combination of an aging 911 and a shed.

Gary.

Yeah, its a good car no doubt. My personal choice would be an e39 528i, but thats only because i prefer four door cars and like the size / presence of a 5 series. Just personal choice though.

Apparently if you would prefer to own a nice new BMW diesel over a 12 year old 355 you must be nutz and wrong in the head.

It's not a remarkable car, its a very very good car and a prime example of the investment of time and resources made by the motor industry in diesel technology. It is not car porn.

Depends where you'e coming from then, i guess. If you're into engineering its a very remarkable car indeed, really quite amazing imo.

To them who don't know though, i guess its just another 3 series.

Which in reality, in Coupe form is a good looking car.

No one said it was ''car porn'' only the chap who keeps going on about it!

Thanks to all those who have supported me and my choice of car. I appreciate your comments!

I do think some people have been overly harsh for no real reason.

But once again thanks to those who have been supportive!

Are we talking about the same thing? This is about your choice of car right.

Please tell me your posting from some primary school.

Fair enough, engineering wise it is indeed impressive and it certainly isn't ugly by any stretch. The purpose of my original post was to highlight that the OP's choice of title was plain wrong, he offered a car for a photoshoot that doesn't fit in with most people's idea of poster material. Some people were just a bit blunt about it and he took offence.

If I've learnt one thing from PH it's that some people really hate BMW's for whatever reason. I try not to get involved anymore in those debates.

I'm passionate about BMW's as much as they aren't.
