So I guess that means it has to be at main dealer?

We have the M performance option or something like that with the bigger brakes.. both rear wheels have been scored by the brake callipers by the looks!

Crumbs, that shouldn't have happened...

In other news, I have ANOTHER tyre issue - picked up a screw in the offside rear... Really not been my week. I'm hoping the maintenance co cover it as it's not sidewall damage. Will find out Tuesday when the new tyre arrives.

I've had this on other cars caused by trapped pebbles.

Certainly looks that way! Mine is currently showing it needs a service a month before it is due back. If I end up doing that at bmw prices then I will definately try to extend the lease for a few months to get some value out of it! So far I'm looking at doing less than 50% of my allowed miles frown

Just changing the subject slightly and the reason why I leased the car ie luxury and performance does anyone have any real world 0-60 figures?
I’m getting a consistent circa 4.5 using various apps but not sure how accurate they would be but a bit of fun trying all the same ;-)

That sounds quicker than I’d expect but then BMW do tend be to be conservative with their figures.

I’d say this car over delivers on performance given 340ps and weight - on a twisty B road driven confidently it’s over taking ability when in sports plus is unexpectedly quick!!
I’m going to be super gutted when this gets collected and I replace it with potentially something nearer ordinary - but we’ll see ;-)

Does it have launch control or anything like that? I've obviously not tried as it's not really a drag race kind of car...

I know we all like a deal here, so not sure if you guys had heard/seen. BMW are doing 20% off services booked and done by mid-June. https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/service-wor...

I know that's probably too early for most, but may help someone one smile

The oil only service is coming to £183.96 for me, instead of the 'usual' £229.95.

Too early for the 840i but iur M2 big service is about to come up so this could prove very timely, thanks for the heads up!

Apparently it does. Process is this according to research:

1) Steering wheel straight. Set the DSC to 'TRACTION' (I think this is the short press, the long press turns it off entirely)
2) Sport+ mode, gear lever into Sport
3) Left foot REALLY hard on the brake
4) Right foot hard on the accelerator, past the kickdown notch (a flag symbol should appear on the dash)
5) Revs get to optimal for launch (I'd guess probably 3-4k RPM)
6) Release brake within 3sec

Apparently it needs a 5 min cool down between each launch and obviously don't do it with a cold engine and trans...(it probably won't even let you).

I've not tried it myself but I might give it a go at some stage - just feels a little naughty in something so big and wafty..!

Just an update on servicing.

I have had confirmation from leasys that I can use an independent garage for the service as long as I used genuine BMW parts!

I'm pleased to say that the maintenance co covered the replacement of the tyre that had a screw embedded in it. The maintenance will cost £1,024 over the term of the lease; so far it's 'saved' me £350 on the tyre and what looks like it'll be £230 on the service when it comes due.

I'm pretty sure the car will need new tyres at some stage between now and July next year (due to wear, assuming no other unexpected punctures) so reckon it'll have worked out in my favour to have gone the maintenance route rather than paying ad-hoc out of pocket...

I think service will be closer to £400 as I called BMW and they stated first service is engine oil with micro filter. The micro filter is extortionate though. I have been quoted £126 just for the micro filter alone!

I had a similar challenge with Audi price match some years back but locating an independent that serviced with OEM parts was difficult as they’d always come back and say they were OEM equivalent or better bla bla bla so gave up in the end

Car is telling me to top up engine oil by 1 litre - cant see what I should be using from the drivers guide - 5w 30 ? Anyone know please?
Also looking at service schedule it’s now telling me oil change due at 9998 miles so having covered 9400 I’m booking that in for next month £££ ouch

Do you do a lot of short trips?

Mine has been showing oil change due in 9,000 for a little while after a countdown, but have done about 3,000 miles in the last few months. I assume prefers longer trips.

Are you sure it's not counting down from 9998 miles? Seems too soon as it's based on 2 year/18000 mile intervals?

Bmw shop verified part number 83212465849 as the oil. I was going to say they use castrol (used to be printed on the oil caps) but a quick Google says they switched from castrol to shell in 2015.

More to the point, slightly concerning it needs a litre of oil?
