It really is appallingly bad design. Any broken clips?

Haven’t had a proper look yet tbh - these were replaced some months back with apparently stronger clips at BMW and seemed to be fine ….. until now- can’t be bothered going back to BMW - it does take the edge off the ownership / leasing experience of the car

Here's the link to the parts page on RealOEM if you need the clips: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=GV22...

They're part no. 07149288827 from BMW - I bought a handful and keep the pack in the car in case it pops off again and breaks one.

I've not yet had any notification of a new update.

I did have an odd email from Leasys reminding me to 'take care of the car' and about excess mileage charge. Interestingly the letter said:

"Excess Mileage Charge: 26.00 pence per mile plus VAT, in excess of the total mileage and pro rata"

That's lower than what's on other documentation. As it happens I'm not sure I'm going to run past the 20k miles (I'm only on 7.5k at a year in) so it may well be moot anyway.
Has it been a year since you had the car? I got that as a letter in March, on the one year anniversary of getting the car.

Yes, a year in. Seemed a bit odd but there we go.

Took the car in for the first service today at a BMW main dealer, £420.28!

Was that for the engine oil and micro filter only and at what mileage?

Yep it was. It was at 20k miles which most people won’t have to worry about

Most cars use condition-based servicing; had you been doing lots of really short journeys (or thrashing the tits off it)?

Yes. That’s what I suspected also but 8k? Come on!

Had an email today from Rybrook BMW offering an oil service for £169 (M cars £189). Assuming thats the same thing, its a bargain.

I think the servicing is time based as well as mileage and they start counting down from the build date. My 840d called for it's first service exactly 2-years from manufacturer and I paid about £370 for it.

That Rybrook deal sounds seriously good if they'd honour it on a new 8-series!

I bought my 8 from them which is why I got the email, and the service is due Sept so I presume they will. I’ll be giving them a ring before the offer expires

Balls. Just had a NIP through today - anyone know whether it will definitely have gone via Leasys first? If so I'm going to check it was issued within the 14 day window.

The NIP I have is dated 10/8 for an offence on the 6/7. So I'm guessing it will have gone to Leasys first, they'll have responded with my details and a new NIP issued to me - hence the dates..?

Sounds about right. It can't come you first as you're not the registered keeper on the log book.
I still find that a bit weird!

I'll check it with Leasys tomorrow anyway - no harm in case there's a procedural error with the timing. It's for the heinous crime of 36 in a 30 so only 1mph over the prosecution threshold annoyingly, I was in a line of cars so I guess it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Should be a SAC at that speed at least.

On unrelated news, I'm still very much loving this car and wafting around at no more than 6 tenths anywhere! I think it qualifies as the nicest / enjoyable car I've 'owned' as a package. Only preferences would be a hatch/lift back and possibly a tiny bit less width to the car. It will be missed when it goes back!

Has anyone made loose plans for replacement yet? I've a GR Yaris on order which will be the most ridiculous contrast and I'm not sure whether the driving pleasure is going to sufficiently overcome the return to a far less luxurious experience!
