I canceled my 316iA delivery because the dealer messed up with delivery times (promised two months, new time was 4 months due to Individual exterior color and summer vacation at BMW factory). I got sick of waiting for that car, it was a 316i not a special order 760iL...
I then noticed that my dream daily driver, the 4 series GC, came out with the preferred combo of 2,0 petrol, automatic and xDrive and then proceeded to order a BMW 420iA xDrive Gran Coupe Luxury Line today!
The car will be Midnight Blue w/ Sadel brown interior (rare combo), and is very well equipped with LED's, HUD, Harman/Kardon etc. I skipped the "sport" stuff as sport automatic, active dampers etc. It's good enough as it is.
I borrowed a 420dA for an entire day and I was sold by how different and more special it felt than a 3 series. I honestly thought a 3 and 4 would feel the same, but they really don't! The 4 Gran Coupe just makes you feel special, where as in the 3 series you feel like you bought a car that everyone has.
Also, the pictures don't do the 4GC justice, they look fantastic when on the move.
Delivery around October - November.

You ordered a F30 316i with Individual paint!? That would have been an odd spec car.
Right what they say though. The individual stuff is stated to add between 4-8 weeks to the delivery time.
Only thought on the new car is that the 320i is a pig. No guts to it, sounds bad and uneconomical. Whatever ones mileage, 320d's are the way forward. More fun to drive, more economic and they have more chance of being in equity at the end!
Last thought - have you seen Saddle brown in the flesh?
Spec sounds lovely and midnight blue is very rate and extremely underrated

Just realised you are not based in the UK. So maybe there are tax benefits in going for the petrol. And if that's the case, the 328i/428i is a much nicer engine!Right what they say though. The individual stuff is stated to add between 4-8 weeks to the delivery time.

I was told that the delivery would be end of July (by a sales person who worked there). In the beginning of July they called me and said that it was due for delivery in the end of September because of misc. incidents.
Have you driven the same petrol engine that I have!? I tried the 420i (couple, automatic) and while it was a little slow at getting started (the auto was..), I didn't miss any power. I absolutely hate the tractor noise of the 320d and to me it's worth paying extra for the glorious petrol silence... My job includes a lot of waiting in the car and after some miles in a diesel Volvo I hate those diesel vibrations in the seat and steering wheel more than anything... Even if the i is slower than the d, I would pick 420i again and again.
The 430d was out of reach, that's a much quiter and smoother diesel.
I saw Saddle brown sample, yes. Thought it was cool, as in different from the black and beige interiors that I'm tired of.
The Midnight Blue is absolutely stunning. I like BMW's blue colours but the Midnight is just something else. I saw it on a 1 series last summer and couldn't get over it - that never happened to me regarding a car colour before. When I found out that the 4-series could be had with it, there was no doubt, this car was made for me! It kind of looks like a chrome blue wrap on really sunny days. I remember that I could see my own cars reflection of the 1-series that I saw.

There actually are tax benefits, the petrol's are just a little bit cheaper.I considered the 428i engine, but to be honest I don't see the point considering my use (the 4GC will be an urban cruiser). The power in the 420i felt adequate. Why pay more?
If I was going the full-on, 6-speed, all M-spec, non-xDrive 3-series route with everything sport, then the 328i would have made a lot more sense

Are you sure you're not talking about the last e90 generation 320i, the new turbo charged one in the F30 is excellent, in fact the 1.6 turbo in the new 116i is better than the old 320i, you have your wires crossed shirley? Right what they say though. The individual stuff is stated to add between 4-8 weeks to the delivery time.

My thoughts exactly. The 316i of F30 generation feels as brisk as any 1,9/2,0TDi in any VW/Vauxhall/Japanese mid-size car... It's no longer a joke, but a decent car for those who want value for money.Urban Sports said:

The normally aspirated N43 engine in the E90 was absolutely terrible and whilst I concede the N20 engine is better, it's still no where as impressive as the N47 2.0d. It still feels heavy and unwilling, although fuel economy has got a BIT better... Around town its still no where near the 35-40mpg you can expect from an N47 engine.I do agree on the noise though... N47/B47 cars sounds relatively tractory when at standstill, but once on the move you forgive it for all the torque and economy it gives you.
Finally, the N13 engine in a F20 116i is fabulous. This is the same engine the F30 316i gets... don't get confused - not the same engine as a 420i!! When I drove one of those for the first time when the F20 was launched it blew my mind. Finally, a fun, small, economical petrol engine. With the old 1 Series people bought 118d's by default even if they just used the car round town because the petrol alternative was so terrible and had such bad residual values. But the N13 really won back some love for petrol engines. That's a 1.6litre block though. So, I don't know whether its the heavier engine or the heavier car, but the N20 in a 3 series or 4 series just feels a little disappointing.
All IMHO of course. And caraddict, at least we can agree on the Midnight blue!
