I'm intrigued. What part of the seat did you fix using the metal hanger and how?

Here we are, not my work but I swung by JW Autowerks this morning to see how Richard was getting on with the E46 and it's poorly subframe bushes and mounts. Full welded repair with patch plates from Kew Fab, as well as two new sills, two new front wings, and then over the Craig Anderson for paint. Should be good as new in a fortnight!

Bare F3x Sport steering wheel purchased on eBay and will send that to RSW to get them to fully re-trim it in Alcantara with the BMW M tri-stitching / no strip at the top

Means I keep my original wheel; along with all the original interior trim and can revert the car back to OEM when the time comes to sell biggrin

Hopefully. It is a bit of a mission creep from 'chuck a set of subframe and diff bushes in to cure the propshaft knocking issue' but given its all but scrap without the repairs, what else can you do?

Bushes came over from AutoDoc as very little availability within the UK. Lemforder, all bar two which where out of stock so Febi for them.

Probably for the best; no point in fitting shiny new bits to a chassis that's gonna fall apart around them...

Few little jobs on the 125i

Checked and sorted tyre pressures
Topped up screenwash
Gave it half a litre of oil
Quick hoover of inside
Wiped down dash etc with Auto Glym Interior Cleaner

Did the same jobs on the majestic specimen of a Honda Civic you can see in the foreground.

Oh yes, once we had seen the boot cracks, repair was the only option. And once doing hot work, carpet out etc, it was time to inspect the sills, which where then at a stage where replacement was going to be more sensible than repair.

I had new front wings put on 6-7 years ago, and they could be saved, but given the cost of new and they fact they are bolt on, it is more economical just to replace again.

Oh, and a water pump.

The plastic sheath of the cable connecting the motor to the head rest hight adjustment mechanism stretches over time. Because the motor is lower down than the mechanism it causes the end of the cable to become detached from the mechanism. The motor then runs but nothing happens except the wire turns in the sheath, it's like an old square profile speedometer cable.

The fix is to cut about 6mm off the end of a wire coat hanger, remove the cable from the motor and insert the piece of wire. This packs out the cable enough so it can still pickup the drive at both ends. Fixed for nothing but half an hour (would have been less if the screws holding the motor on did not need penetrating oil to release) of my time and a slightly shorter hook on a coat hanger.

Ah.........OK, thanks. I didn't even realise electric headrest adjustment was an option!

When the plastic sheath stretches further still and the coat hanger method won't work you can resort to cutting and shortening the outer sheath - to reconnect the sheath I found that fittings/couplings from microbore plumbing fittings worked.

P.S. Could you post this up on the new forum5 Richard to remind people it still works.

My M Performance sterring wheel arrived today. woohoo

The courier - bless their little cotton socks - basically dumped the box on the doorstep in the pissing rain. Didnt ring the doorbell, didnt rap the door. Just legged it. Nor was there a notification it was on its way or out for delivery. We found the box four hours later absolutely soaking wet. I was panicking opening it but fortunately it was bubble wrapped and in plastic bags.

Its very very nice. Slightly flat bottomed, alcantara grips and the rest of the leather is softer and more tactile compared to the standard M2 one.

Looking forward to fitting it.

The M Performance mats arrived too. Should set the car off nicely but will leave those until i need clean the car out well, and also might just leave them until after the worst of the winter. The others are fine, just showing their age at 5 years old.

That looks absolutely mega cool

I'm sending my bare wheel off to RSW on Monday for them to fully re-trim in black alcantara all the way round with M stitching

I ordered the CF trim from BMW yesterday biggrin That wasn't cheap, but it's necessary laugh

Have you got yours brand new from BMW or have you had it re-trimmed?

Oh very nice. Do post up results. If you dont mind me asking, what did that cost?

That one of mine is a genuine M Performance one. I posted previously it all escalated quickly in terms of what i was ordering... hehe
