I'm with you Carlos. Could have bought lots of different options within my budget and yes I debated some of Stuggart's finest, but given I do c30k miles per year, I wanted something quick enough to have lots of fun in, yet do 500 miles on a tank and a useable boot (dull, yes, but reality). I'm very happy. Car's done 41k miles already - getting better and the little tweak DMS added last August means I have had fun up against some serious motors.

Im not being arsey here, but seriously Carlos, if you had full control over the car you are driving and were handed £45k tomorrow and told to buy something... would it be a brand new 335d?

Have you grown to love the car because to all intents and purposes it was the car that you were given? We are all going to stick up for our choice of car and defend (even though we don't have to) our rationale for buying it. After all, we wouldnt be driving the car we were driving if we didnt want to... or are you?

Genuine question, as from my POV if i was pushed into a 335d for similar reasons to yourself i would obviously be very happy, but it still wouldnt be the car my own £45k would go on, if you get me?

haha

yeah that one you came on was fun, love the way the only TVR to join us that day was either holding everyone else up or at the back trying to keep up!

only problem . . . . . .

ive moved 4 hours away from lincolnshire . . . . . . . .

so, your more than welcome if I find some decent secret roads round here but as yet im still discovering the place.

(mid wales, in case you where wondering, and yes, lots of nice routes just need to find the really special ones like I showed you in lincs)

+1 Agreed. I'll quote myself (well nobody else will !) from when our young hero burst onto the scene a couple of months ago:

'Like the 335d a lot but seems a bit of an odd choice for a young lad like yourself ? Anything else on the shortlist ? Any reason you went for it ?'

(This thread and the other one about the photoshoot are a cracking laugh btw rofl - let's keep it up !)

Why is it not a good choice of car for young lad? it looks great, has fantastic performance and is good on juice.

The only other car i would consider is the 335i which does sound much better. No quicker though stock for stock. (Have tried with friends 335i's many many times.)

But i am quite happy with my 335d, enough so that i dont feel the need to change it for a 335i. Also no re-map has yet been released for the 335i so tuning currently is a bit crude with tuning boxes and the like.

The 335d has been succesfully re-mapped and is a peach!

What I found funny was when some other young lad posted his nice 5 series he'd actually sourced and bought himself, Carlos criticised it for not being a Spoty 3 series!

Not a bad choice as such (and I personally would really like a 335d so be in no doubt I think they're grrrreat !) but maybe just an unusual one ? Most young lads would spend their £40k on something more overtly sporty I'd have thought ? Or maybe I'm just horribly out of touch eek

For the past few months i have been thinking of selling the 335d and buying a 996 turbo. Although it would have to be a 5 year old one but i was thinking of how ballistic they are and the tunign potential. I also thought about an E60 M5.

I got talked out of it by my mates. Some of whom are young and the same age. The prefered the ''Current'' shape BMW 3 series to the ''older shape'' Porsche. In A sense i know what they mean. The 996 Turbo is a special piece of kit, and in my opinion is more of an older person car than a brand new 3 series which is very ''young man''. Especially compared to 5 series and 7 series.

radical thought, why not make a car purchase based on its own merits rather than what others think of it?

All im getting at is the 3series is a young persons car. Think of how many under 25s have them. Whether it be a older one or a newer one depending on budget.

For the cool factor which we appear to be talking about the 996TT is the king of it.

Anything this side of a M3 will always be considered a rep mobile by most as thats what most are used for. The 335 has a great engine but to most it's indistinguishable from any other 3 series and there are a lot of them.

I don't mean any of this in a derogative way but maybe your friends are just being kind and not really truthful.
