New toy arrived - 520d

My spin on the 535 vs 520 debate - I've done the one done car fits all thing (335i Touring) and it doesn't work for me. Hence swapping for a 520d and (soon) a £10k Elise for weekends.
Point is, my 520d is a company car, so fuel and deprecition are not factors for me. However, lease costs and company car tax most certainly are and the 520d is at least £300/month less than the 535d when one takes these into consideration....i.e my budget for the Elise
I'm sure the 535d is wonderful (as was the 335i) but I'm utterly convinced that I'd take a 520d + Elise over either.
I had a similar debate in that my company car allowance would have got me a 520d - which i highly rate by the way. My particular problem is that our second car is a z4 3.0Si Coupe, so if i was going to struggle to buy anything that was going to make a worthwhile weekend 'toy'.Point is, my 520d is a company car, so fuel and deprecition are not factors for me. Hence i went for a used 535d.
But yes, with a 520d you've a great, economical car, and probably as much real world performance as anyone needs for a day to day car.

The 520d really is staggering - for such large car with a relevatively small engine, the performance is exceptional. Sports mode on the 'box helps enormously when required.
And the fact you can get 220bhp with a tuning box is pretty awesome to. Bye bye Golf GTI loldxb335d said:

but you cant remap or tune company/lease cars, or am i missing something.
Dont you oppress me!You can do it, but they may get 'upset' if they find out. But will they find out?
If your company found out it could also be gross mis-conduct, but I'm sure you'll be fine!

"If your company found out..." - my companys CFO wants to fit one to his car - i'm taking him up to where i got mine.
But yes i take your point.
But then how boring would life be if you didnt take even the slightest risk? 25% more power and improved fuel economy for a few hundred pounds? Almost makes it the perfect crime.

rst thing they check after an accident" - its usually a week before they come out so plenty of time to remove it - its a two mins job. You'd have to be fairly dim to not remove it after an accident, knowing an assessor is coming out.
Are you advocating insurance fraud on a public forum?pgilc1 said:

I opted out. New A6 TDI, or buy my own used 535d. Hmmm..

Dont be a tt.
Who's the tt? My audit trail is clear. And i really dont think we're in that much of a police state that anyone will try to investigate IF previously i've had a tuning box on any previous car of mine?
But if you want to act like the bogey man go right ahead.
