I'm not sure it is Carlos, you keep saying it is but I have not seen any times yet for the 330i (270ps version) yeah the older 330i was a good couple of seconds behind but this new one is alot quicker.

In fact this is the first figures I have seen for any car using the new engine.
There not any quicker mate. Stock for stock there is 14bhp difference which can be offset by weight of the diesel for sure. But the diesels torque pulls it away from the 330i after 60mph. 0-60 stock fot stock there pretty equal. The 335d does mid 13's to the ton. The 330i does mid 14's. Then few hundred quid and the denzil is doing low 12's high 11's to the ton. The 335d is no good for standing starts. Rolling start the denzil will pull away.

An example is an E36 M3 evo. Standing start with a mapped 335d, there is nothign in it till 100mph but then the 335d pulls away, but rolling 40-140mph the 335d pulls 8 car lenghts, (ive done both these with a friend)

With a car that has 50bhp less than an m3 evo and heavier, the gap is even bigger. If only the diesel sounded as good though!

I think the x35d is a good car in its own right, but i can see where people are coming from when they say its 'not all that'. Yes, its quickish as a standard car but it really takes a remap / chip to make it come alive.

With my previous 535d i had it remapped before it had 1000 miles on the clock and it was just amazing.

This one i've added a tuning box, and that extra 50BHP or so take its from smile to evil

Yes the standard car may be there or thereabouts to a 530i, and, according to Top Gear, be a great car, but slightly slower than a 545i, but the upgraded version is a different beast altogether.

Its no M5 beater, but it can outgun probably 98% of what you meet out on the roads day in day out - which for me was a focus ST, new model 350z and various Type R's & GTi's.

Yes, in an ideal world we'd all drive 550i's / m5s if we were buying a 5 series, but as few of do so little miles as to be able to run one i think the 535d is a great compromise.

I agree with you totally mate

i would never believe any person telling me a diesel could be so quick. But now this non belieber has got one.

Its a fast car mate, will out accelerate a vxr8 from a standstill, an RB320 imoprezza etc.

On a rollign start will pull away from E36 and E46 m3's

But i wont ever buy a diesel again, there is no other diesel car that comes close. Im not a diesel fan, never have been and never will be. But 0-100 in 11-12 secs cant be dismissed what ever car it is.

Also what the 335d does from a standing start is not really a good shwoing of what its capable from a rolling start which it comes into its own.

True, BUT its easier to drive on the torque not the power. I had a 190BHP Alfa 156 V6, and on the motorway in sixth you had to drop at least two cogs maybe three to get any sort of grunt out of it. Compare that to a 320d, which will easily outpull it in sixth.

You either enjoy reving a car to get the power, OR you either the torque. Personally, i prefer the torque, but its very much a marmite thing.

My g/f had a 320d coupe and HATED it. She now has a 3.0i

I understand where your coming from but dont agree.

With the torque, a standard 335d will live with cars that have higher power figures on a rolling start.

+1

And probably explains why Carlos (dxb) can catch out much heavier duty machinery.

Well that is impressive, a 214bhp 2.0 diesel can out perform a 272bhp 3.0 straight six on a track!!

Having said that, we swapped my wifes 120d m-sport for the new 177bhp ED 320d sport touring and it is tuned to around 210bhp and 450nm and it never fails to impress. I went from a tuned 335i and even coming from that it never feels slow.
However the new 330i felt superb, it was actually after having that for 2 days that I decided to get rid of the turbo 335i.

Just saw the 330i vs D3 video, the 330i was the tank like E93 convertible.

God even the new M3 is slow in E93 form!!wink
