Appreciate all the input on here. Whilst looking forward to my new car, I was equally concerned that I could have bought an older car for less, or a car without the same specification for less, and some older, lower specc'd, and higher mileage cars were even less still.

Apparently buying from a council estate oop north would have offered a cheaper price still.

I must thank you all for your assistance and concerns for me during this troubling time. As some of you knwo I just fancied a different car for shopping and popping to the pub. The 7 seeemed ideal, but I have been corrected of the errors in my ways.

The BMW main dealer (in Tunbridge Wells) has kindly offered me my deposit back, and I have bought a Toaureg instead.

I am not posting this on the vw forum as I will undoubtedly be told that I could have bought a better, cheaper and more reliable model if I had only spoken to some guy who may or may not have seen or heard of a car that could have been like mine, but much cheaper.

I thank you all for saving me from the horrors of BMW ownership.

Hi chaps.

Looking at a 06 730d.

Are their any known faults that i need to consider. Are they generally a good car.

had a '99 7 series and the engine went pop at 100k. Looking at a 30,000 mile car, will come with a BMW warranty.

Any advise very welcome.
And he gets 5 pages of 'I know more than you do!' bangheadrofl

Maybe responses were mainly regarding me buying the wrong car and being unable to make a sensible decision as to what constitutes a good purchase, not advising of any known faults.

Ooh happy days

There are some storming deals on the Toureg at the mo. You can get 08 reg 3l tdi se from VW dealers for around 21k or the alititude with bling wheels for 23ish. Lot of metal for the money.

Very confusing choice of car. The Touraeg is deeply compromised as a result of its ability to go anywhere off road. Why would you accept these compromises if you'll get no benefit from its strengths?

On the road it's simply an oversized, overpriced VW?

I quite like them inside. Very nice place to be sitting. I would however prefer the 7 for myself.

What price do you place a VW at then? It will be good to hear your point of view as it is obviously more valuable than either mine, or the guys at VW who decided that there was a market for them.

I thought it's strengths were good load area with easy loading and unloading, great visibility, a seating position similar to the Range Rover that it replaces, a large cup holder for my mug of tea, flat ride round corners and enough grunt to overtake.

but please. you tell me what you think. That is honestly all that matters. Ignore all I have said regarding this is for shopping and pub journeys, please.

I thought he was asking if there was anything he should know issue wise regarding the 7 series, not asking for everyone to tell him he can buy a different spec car that has done more miles and is a lot older for less money.

Unless of course the known 'fault' of the 730d is that you can get older petrol cars for less money?

hehe

Man changes mind and buys luxury 4X4
Then gets more abuse.
And i still dont understand confused

In actual fact i think i do understand the OP,
I drive an X3 D auto which is absolutley the most horid car BMW have ever produced. its not even fitted with a proper mans gearbox let alone the fact is not fueled on petrol.

I think i might just as well shoot myself and if the OP has any sense he should do the same.

Owning a nice comfy quick car that suits your needs sounds like a good idea if you ask me, but what do i know i like autos eek
