No comment. tongue out

Bought a second hand remote control for the X5's rear DVD player from a seller in Lithuania. Was not a lot of money (and still needs to be coded to the system by a BMW dealer!), we'll see if it arrives, in what state, whether it works and what kind of additional import charges I'll need to pay.

Estimated delivery Thu, 09 Sep - Mon, 11 Oct hehe

They are very difficult to find and the ones from the States won't work with UK models. They are needed to get into the menu screen of the rear DVD system so you can change the input, screen brightness etc.

The one for sale was actually labelled as a remote for the webasto auxiliary heater. I looked into this and found that in actual fact, the remote for that looks like this:

Lightbulb moment as one of the 'fobs' supplied with our X5 was indeed just like that. I had no idea what it was for and in fact, neither did the seller! Basically additional heating unit so you can activate while in the house and it'll warm up the car without having to turn the engine on etc. I knew our X5 had the auxiliary heater, but didn't know how to activate. If only I'd known over winter. I wonder if it still works. Reportedly it can only be activated at temps <16C.

The aux heater kicks arse. I had one in my E39 530d and did a bodge to make a switch that could put it on. Didn’t have to scrape the screen or worry about warming up the engine. The telestart kits (like yours) are even better, but were too much money for my old car.

That's +5hp per door, why would you complain.
A good map from a mate with a laptop makes them good for +10hp (small side effect, the LEDs die in two weeks)

Collected my 130 from the body shop.

Rear bumper did look like this after I had a moment with a bollard that the sensors decided not to pick up (and I decided not to see in a rush dropping the little ‘un off at swimming).

I also had the rear diffuser painted in gloss dark shadow metallic.

How much ££ if you don't mind me asking, I'm assuming not much change from £500?

Nice wee toolkit with the correct torx driver and some pry tools. Didn’t need them in the end, very easy retrofit.

£350. Which I didn’t think was too bad at all.

They’re a local place tucked out of the way and were recommended to me by a local PDR guy.

Oh.... i like that.

That "seems" to fit the F20 1 series. Where did you get it and is it an easy fit?

This is the one I bought:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Speed-Limit-Info-SLI-Em...

Needed these coding:

Fitting was a case of loosening 2 torx screws, pull the cluster forward from the top then lift it up to free some tabs at the bottom then squeeze it out. Disconnect one set of wires from the cluster, plug that into the emulator then plug the emulator into the cluster.

Ordered. Brilliant! beer

It has been one thing that annoyed me about our car - the fact it doesnt display speed limits. Our A45 had it and it was very handy. Sometimes you're on unfamiliar roads and having the reassurance is very useful.

👍 mine took 12 days for delivery which I thought not too bad for an overseas affair.

Bought some wipers for the E91 (rock and roll I know!)

Looking to buy a DAS-6 polisher. Lots of kits on the market with Meguiar's products, Chemical Guys & Menzerna.

https://a1detailing.co.uk/product-brand/das-6/

I know there are some keen detailers here, any suggestions as to what's best?

Drove around the Elan Valley with my other half in her 125i. It was lots of fun too (both a bit sun burnt after 300 miles with the roof down).

I bought one of these this year to replace an ancient DAS-6

https://www.in2detailing.co.uk/products/in2detaili...

It seems really good so far. It’s more powerful than my old DAS-6 so takes less effort! Can’t fault the service either.

Dragged the V12 out of the garage and took it for an hour long shakedown around the roads of Surrey - everything works beautifully and so I gave it a wash before tucking it back in the garage. Two set of neighbours out for an evening stroll complimented me on the shine from the paintwork!

Thanks for the link. It's the products more than anything that I'm interested in, there are a lot of options. It also seems that some products are suited for certain manufacturers depending on how hard or soft the paint is.

125i is looking good. Makes me think I should get the Z4 out at some point, but 1) Lazy 2) Only 2 seats (although one could argue the latter is a perfect reason to leave wife at home and just go out with my son hehe )
