Just a wee run (First run in the wet in the 340) to the garage to pick up and hand over my old exhaust to it's new owner following upgrade to MPPSK (Said to the garage I'd collect in a few days thinking that the exhaust would sell quickly - took several weeks but they never chased me up about it) - not much but offset the cost of the new one a little bit. Rear end is quite twitchy in the wet it seems! Noticed they had a deal on for winter wheels & tyres for £550 - wondering if it's worth investing in that as I live in Scotland.

Tried to work out why Spotify vanished from idrive yesterday

After over an hour it appears Spotify have unilaterally dropped this excellent functionality

WTF

Can stream from phone using my own data but have lost all idrive integration and the data bundle which came with connected drive

Not happy

That’s a real pain. I used to use Deezer in my older 3 series in my phone as it had the full iDrive integration. Then, they dropped it so I moved to Spotify. These services are great, and then just vanish.

Finally fitted my Eibach suspension springs, spacers & 20” Veemann VC7 alloys today. Also had both lower arm/ball joints replaced at the same time..
Picture resolution isn’t great, but I am pleased with how it’s turned out smile

Ordered a soft indoors cover. Put her in the garage as going away for a bit.
Out of interest which did you buy? Might get one for the Z4.
Super stretch soft cover from classic additions:

https://www.classicadditions.com/en-GB/indoor-car-...

Cheaper than the official BMW cover and very high quality.

Not the most exciting, but took my E61 for an MOT and it passed, without a single advisory.

Not what I was expecting, as there is a distinct clunk from the front when steering, an odd clicking from the aux belt when coming off the gas, and a rattle from underneath at certain revs.

I was half hoping the mot would help diagnose them, bit I shall have that pleasure to myself now.

Still, I did get this report to puzzle over

Not entirely sure Kwik Fit did their homework properly, as they have the car down as a 2.5l instead of 3l... (It's a facelift n53)

And not sure which temperature gauge they were looking at to tell the engine was warm? (Though of course anyone could have told the engine was warm by walking past it, so I guess they had to say yes)

Testers in the olden days had to verify engine speed by clamping onto a plug lead and would often have to verify engine temperature by using a probe in the dipstick hole. Now they tend not to do it and go by temp gauge. With something like an E series BMW with no gauge they leave it Idling for test where they do the lights and brake efficiency test. They then know the engine is warm enough to be in closed loop fuelling and bypass the speed measurement by holding the engine at the speed the computer tells them to.

Interesting it says 2494cc as you mention, but many testers get the wrong info the N53 engine and fail them incorrectly. Yours passed though, so nothing to worry about.

I took my E90 with the N52 engine and no teperature gauge for an MOT a week ago and it passed.

Even though it wasn't properly up to temperature because when I drove home the oil level check wouldn't give a reading!

But a pass is a pass. smile

In fairness the oil sensors on these are so flaky - I can be in the middle of a motorway run, engine clearly up to temperature, then stop for petrol and it still takes a good 5 minutes for the oil sensor to wake up again and give me a reading. I normally revert to my old days as a Fiat owner and suggest it's not a fault, it's character hehe

Interestingly I've also dug our my last emissions tests results, on an N52 engined 125i, and it is showing 0 % vol on both Fast Idle and Normal CO, and 0 ppm on HC. I assume that's the port injection N52 vs the direct injection N53?

I’ve noticed the sae too; even when the car is properly hot, when you stop and get back in even a few minutes later it takes a little while for any temperature to actually show up.

Two new Goodyear Eagle F1A5s on the front along with a Hunter wheel alignment. Had Michelin PS4 tyres on the front before (two or three times) and each pair has worn on the inner edge like crazy or started stepping/cupping even with a wheel alignment immediately after fitting. Never had an issue with Goodyears on the front or back so the car has F1A5s all round now.

Earlier in the week (over the course of a few days) I put a pair of new springs, shocks and top mounts on the front because the old ones were obviously shot at 190K. All standard (E46 sport specification) stuff, it's currently looking a bit high on the front, but I'm hoping it will settle down somewhat over the next week or two commuting. The new parts looked identical to what came off, but not crusty and knackered, so it should be fine. Also had a front right wheel bearing and brake backing plate. Could have all been done in one day if it wasn't for the lower shock bolt shearing off, good job I have the week off work!

Just need to find out what is causing the EML to come on randomly now. My simplistic code reader says there is "insufficient flow" detected on the EGR system, but I fitted a new EGR valve (after cleaning the old one) and the issue is still there. I'll have a look at the MAP sensor next and if it isn't that I guess it will be an issue with a vacuum line somewhere.

Bought (another) one. An E36/7 Z3. Owned by the good lady, it was pinched last year. Thames valley police found it having not been driven since, parked for a year. We’ve gone through the process with the insurers to buy it back and they accepted. She’s over the moon. We need to do some recommissioning of it, but fortunately about a month before it went missing we had a new hood put on it, so the interior has been saved.

This means in a more official capacity, I need to sell my E46 325ti in a more official capacity as we don’t have the room and that was the deal we’d struck.

Most likely. Port injection is generally cleaner for pollutants than direct injection, with the trade-off being that DI is more economical (i.e. less CO2). The interesting thing about all this CO2 obsession is that many modern petrol cars produce more of the pollutants that are hazardous to health than cars produced 10+ years ago. My previous E46 330Ci would have comfortably passed current Euro 6 emissions limits based on the emissions levels stated on the V5C, despite having an engine designed in the 1990s.
