Thats interesting, we are considering chopping in the 3 touring for either a 5 touring or an X5 (another baby on the way). Is there any more space in an X5 than a 3?
the x5 has more room for sure, but the depreciation was killing me(bought 2 new)and had always fancied getting a loaded 330d and chipping it.

but...but...but...it's an ESTATE
Sorry but you may have to bite the bullet with regard to the estate thing.
Talking from experience, (3 girls) I have only just been able to move away from the estate now the youngest is 9. Probably could have done it earlier but there were other calls on the overdraft!
The first few months are not so bad for kit, after that though it's not just the buggy but all the other kit, travel cots etc, and the tonnage goes up as they get a bit older. I would go larger than you think you need so you wont need to replace due to lack of space.
Plenty of choice out there without having to drive a barge.
(Managed to stay sane all the way through by keeping the m/bike)
