I presume your referring to a dealer bid? Not truly representative of what a car is worth, just what the trade values it at as a straight trade. Private sale value will be a good bit more, although perhaps not through PH now that we all know what the dealers bid you for it

Guess I did pretty well to wangle a 20% discount out of a main dealer back in December then?
I'm not suprised at what you've been offered for it though, the motor trade is a pretty cut throat business, if you sold it privately I'm sure you'd do a bit better.
Shame you're having to get rid of it so soon, mine is well run in now and seems to be getting faster all the time, I recently went on a hoon round the Scottish Highlands in it and enjoyed some of the best roads and driving experiences I've had for a long while. Amazing car.

Quite interesting. With my Z4, I purchased it for £22K, at the time it was 12 months old. The original owner had spent £30K including additional spec so the residual was £8K in 12 months!!!! The Dealer has agreed a £14K balloon after 3 years.

I have not but I lapped the Ring during Easter in convoy with an e-sixt rental 3.0Si driven by a pair of BMW Club Norway instructors... Their car went very well considering that it had winter tyres fitted!!! We did over 7 laps together and the Z4 acquitted itself very well. True, by the end of the session its tyres were fecked, the discs were warped and the brake pads gone, but for a fully loaded car - satnav, heated seats, premium sound, 6-cd changer etc. I was well impressed. Thus, if you are not a Ring / track day nutter, the Z4 3.0Si is more than adequate. Moreover, being the lighter car, a descent coil over kit and big brakes off the Z4M could help a long way towards M3 hunting on track days should you wish to do so...
Me, I would still go for a Z4M for the bark of the S54 - the best in-line 6-cylinder engine ever made?
Catherine, you do seem to have been truly unlucky with yours. I hope I don't have the same experience with mine, picked it up on Wednesday and while I haven't driven it too much yet, I'm already growing quite fond of it. Hope you get your problems sorted with it.
As for residuals, I got quite a bit of money off of mine, but I just hope it doesn't drop too much, and in fact they do stop production later this year. When I asked the garage, they said there wass no plans and were supprised that rumour was going around, although I guess they would have said that anyway.

The Z4 will stay in production, whilst the Z4M will stop. The S54 engine cannot meet emission standards which are coming into force for 2009, besides there is not much point for BMW to produce the engine given that it does not go into any other models...

I'd like to think my Z4MC will become a bit rare and sought after like the original M Coupe...but I suspect it won't be quite the same. The original was a real odd ball, reputedly designed by some BMW guys on their day's off. The Z4MC is clearly just BMWs reaction to the Cayman S.
Do we know how many Z3 M Coupes were manufactured and how many Z4MCs are likely to be around before they stop production? Does anyone know?

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here but I have a friend who sells BMW's for a living and he confirmed to me that they are really struggling to shift both the Z4 and Z4C. They are giving "significant" discounts on these models at present which is not good for supposed image building models in the range. I can appreciate the depreciation curse from first-hand experience on these cars as I bought a high spec Z4 3.0 SE and put it on the road back on launch day for the car, June 18th 2003. I lost a shed load of money on it in 14 months, not least of which can be attributed to BMW getting gready and fitting small engines to the car some 12 months after launch thereby increasing supply and reducing it's staus/image as a genuine niche model Boxster competitor in one fell swoop
