Crumbs, that's a damn fine car. And yes, that will wipe out anything that has designs on making you a feature of their rear view mirror.

I have a 330ci Auto sport. 79k FBMWSH ( just had one ) 1 owner, good spec to include xenons, cd changer. Wheels just been refurbed £10995. I don't think you'll find another for that price.

They're a superb all rounder and whilst I've got a good budget for replacing my car currently, I can't find anything else in the price bracket that comes close.

On the comparion with the Golf, I've had both and whilst it's quicker I've never found the 330 as much fun to hoot down the smaller country lanes.

Has anyone driven the Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo? Economy "near" 320D levels, performance "near" 330D levels and the price isn't bad. I'm thinking about trading in my 330 on one.

D3 Bi-Turbo is available with a manual box...

ETA - More correctly, it's available with an Auto Switchtronic box - it's manual as standard.

I think it's more to do with the original D3 being a rush job - Alpina didn't manage to get the 120d Autobox to work reliably how they wanted in Switchtronic, so decided to release it as a manual only.

The unintended consequence of that seems to be that they sold far more than they were expecting to, hence the D3BT is manual too.

And yes, the fact that it represents no real competition to the halo model has something to do with it - although I understand that to be a BMW GB policy more than anything else - certainly the B3 3.3 was available with a 6spd Manual on the continent.
