Seems Autocar think the V8's happening with 388bhp!
Is that all, TVR would get slated if they produced a modern V8 with "only" 388bhp.

PMSL.

I guess BMW will be putting a 2.4 V8 with 800 bhp in it as soon as they decide to try and take Trevor/Nick the business boy's market share.

so long as customers signed a disclaimer saying that they understood that it woulnd't expect it to last that long

Personally I feel that the coupe's styling looks far better resolved than the roadster, particularly from the rear 3/4 view.

With regard to the Cayman. I was very disappointed with the design and feel that it looks rather awkward, particularly in profile.

Why do Porsche feel so insecure in their styling that all their recent products have to be variations on the 911 theme. They even stretched this to the extreme with the Cayenne.

The z4 may not be perfect but it does show some sense of adventure.

Perhaps they looked at the Z4 sales figures?

The Coupe & M are being launched to boost slow sales IFAIK.

Hmm, well if you put it like that I'll take the Porsche, ta.

This is very difficult as the coxter is just another same old looking Porker, but you get treated badly on the roads when driving a BMW.

Don't get me wrong I like both cars, but would i buy either one??????

No Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BMW has long suffered from "928 envy" so maybe this will help a bit?

I have for a long time disliked all things BMW/Porsche based mainly on the "you are what you drive" scenario and having to deal with the 80's cityboy culture but,,,,

The BMW range is truly hideous but I like this coupe. I really do. The Porsche thingy that looks the same as the rest of the range you can shove.

Sorry, but IMHO it looks hideous, awkard and carries no more exclusivety than an Audi TT - I've never been a fan of BMW design, especially its recent crop. In any case, the fact is the Z4 is by no means a match for the Boxster or Cayman S in any area, they are quite literally in a class of their own!

Porsche residuals will remain pretty much unneffected to say the least, (you only have to look at 5yo+ Porsches to see that) that is because there is simply no comparison to be made - A highly desirable and exclusive brand that does not need to advertise.. oh, just looked ovr on the TV- another dreary and rather souless BMW advert with the ever arrogant and ageing slogan "the ultimate driving machine".. please...there are plenty of other alternatives - Audi, VW, Mercedes, Ford, Subaru, Alfa Romeo...

It's good to see a nice reasoned and balanced argument in favour of that most perfect and unchallengeable brand from Stuttgart. Forgive me for even suggesting this, but you wouldn't perhaps be ever so slightly biased??

I think this is the giveaway comment:

"the ultimate driving machine".. please...there are plenty of other alternatives - Audi, VW, Mercedes, Ford, Subaru, Alfa Romeo...

Er yes, so all of the above companies make products which compare directly with and are likely to be superior to the Z4 Coupe? I'd drive the Z4 Coupe ahead of just about anything in the product ranges of those manufacturers, Ford GT excepted (doesn't really count!).

Gayman! Coxster! Bah! It's a FANTASTIC car.

Congrats on the puchase TD, I look forward to seeing it at a future VMAX. A light, powerful rear wheel drive coupe is always a recipe for much tyresmokery.

I had a Cayman S for a week and fell in love with it...styling and all.

Out of the two......I'd have the Cayman. But then I am ever so slightly biased.

Apologies for the pic.

After I drove the Cayman I started a thread over on the Porsche forum called "Cayman S - Now I understand" because I thought it was a crackling car to drive, but I fully realise that the Z4 Coupe will provide it some stern opposition (probably the only comparable car on the market), so I will enjoy the comparison when I get to drive one in 6/7 weeks time.

The Z4Coupe is replacing the Cooper S so will be a 3.0, still ought to be plenty quick enough with 265bhp - and I suspect it'll be a shed load more driftable than the NSX. I'm sure I'd prefer a Cayman S too, but that's a £50k car compared to a £32k car - as it happens I'll be spending some time in a Cayman S myself before too long so should be able to compare in due course....
