hi there, looking to buy an 530d, just wondering if there's any real issues i should look out for and genrally is it a good car to own, curently have a jag xk8 and want as close as i can get in a desiel lol think the 530d's the choice just now what u think thanks
All cars of that age will still be under manufacturers warranty, and should be fine.Prices vary wildly so use www.bmw.co.uk and search nationally - for example there is an 07 530d m sport on there for £21K.
For added 'go', check out the prices of the 535d - you could find one of those within your budget too.

ye but dont fancy the style of the xj though, quite like the 5 though, i know will still have warrenty, but its once thats up im worried about, if they have any weak points to think about? thanks
I would extend the warranty personally. I've a 535d and thats what i'll be doing come may when mines 3 years old.I have a Aug 2007 M Sport 525d and it's a 'stellar' car. This is my second 525d and the first did 60k miles over 3 years and felt just run in! A colleague of mine has a 54 Reg 530d with 127k miles on the clock, again with no real mechanical issues. You might like to consider the 525d over the 530d. In the real world there is very little difference in the performance, but the 525 is several £k cheaper. Keep an eye out for the updated models, they came in around Spring/Summer 2007 (if I remember correctly) an have more kit as standard, but more important new engines. The 525d actually being a 3 litre. A lot more economical as well. Would I have another - yes - can't see anything better. Good luck with the purchase, at the present you should have plenty of choice.

Didn't know the 525D was the 3ltr too, so by my reckoning that makes the diesel range all 3ltr (excepting the 4 pot 2ltr 520D) as I understand the 535D is a twin turbo 3ltr, very strange if they all have the same engine in different states of tune .jonboy07 said:
£17,995 for a black 05 plate 530d se auto with black dakota seats/heated dark wood int, but no other extras as far as i can see though, 17 alloys, 35k, nice clean car, looks new but is this a good price? thanks
Sounds a bit pricey to me...Heres an 05 with leather, met paint, media and bluetooth for £3500 less

I drive one of the first LCI 530dT Sport models registered in late April 2007. The LCI 530d models have the push button start as an easy way to tell them from the pre-LCI models.
The auto box is much improved on the LCI cars and this impacts significantly on the fuel consumption. Running from Bristol to the Isle of Sheppey, very early morning, and maintaining a very 'enthusiastic' average speed, I regularly achieve just over 40 mpg. Average over the life of the car is 36.6 mpg. Total mileage covered to date is 47,000.
Suspension and ride is also vastly improved on the LCI cars over the early cars on run flats, partly due to improvements in the tyre technology but also as a result of suspension changes.
My previous car was a 2002 E39 530dT Sport that I ran to 130,000 miles with no major issues. The E61 is probably going to go a long way past that mileage with me!

Push button start was introduced late '05, not as part of LCI.The auto box is much improved on the LCI cars and this impacts significantly on the fuel consumption. The gearstick is the biggest giveaway on the auto box.. Its more like a silver computer joystick with the 'P' button the very top, rather than the more traditional auto box.
Everything else you say is right on the button - i had an Apr 07 535d M Sport last year and it averaged around 37mpg. My current 05 535d Sport is only averaging around 32-33mpg.
Having said that there is quite a price jump from an 05 car to an LCI '07 car, so its dependent on budget.
