User error though, isn't it. Walk away from the car with stop/start activated and low and behold the car starts up.
Still not seen a picture of your 330D Luxury now that it has ACS springs fitted by the way.
Surely if one locks the doors and walks away, the system should know not to restart? Still not seen a picture of your 330D Luxury now that it has ACS springs fitted by the way.

User error - End of!
The owner failed to ensure the car was switched off when they left the car.
It's interesting to read how some people think that it's the cars fault for not realising that the door being closed and locked should mean that the stop/start should no longer function - So the owner shouldn't have to take any responsibility anymore for ensuring that everything is switched off correctly?

Ok lets get this right ,genuinly, So you get in, drive where your going with the stop start on.Get to your destination turn the engine off and get out lock the door, So your saying you should also turn the stop/ start off as well ?
Firstly when the dealer took me through the car he never mentioned that, secondly ive done that dozens of times in the 6 weeks ive had my car and nothing happens my engine nere restarts.
Im not convinced,

As an example, I got to the gym last night I parked up and engine goes off (on the auto start stop) I pull handbrake on and put the auto in P the engine is still off. (but it's not properly off)
So if I'm not thinking I could just jump out lock the car and walk off and the engine could/would eventually start up again.
It's user error by failing to turn the car off.
Ever so slightly off topic but I have to say I hate the stop/start function with a passion and it's become a habit to switch it off immediately after I've switched the ignition on; it must save all of a thimble-full of fuel and it's presumably just another invention to make the published fuel consumption figures look better in the highly artificial tests. However, the continual stopping and starting in traffic or at giveways at junctions/roundabouts drives me nuts and if I could turn the feature off permanently I would!
Interestingly, a relation of my next-door neighbour works in a technical capacity for Mercedes UK and reckons the function is also a menace because of the additional demands it places on various components as a result of the repeated starting and stopping (so starter motor, various belts, etc). I'm sure the official line from the manufacturers will be that the relevant parts have been strengthened to cope with the extra stresses and strains but if someone with inside knowledge is saying "If it was my car I'd switch it off" it probably tells you all you need to know. Personally I turn it off because I think it's rubbish but from the sounds of it I'm probably doing my car a favour as well!

It's a pain in the arse!
Indeed it is but I decided it was stupid to be irritated by something I can turn-off and hence I do exactly that at the start of each journey! As I say, just a pity you can't turn it off permanently (unless there's a facility to do so buried in the depths of the i-drive menu which I'm not aware of?).Wills2 said:

LOL; I was hoping for an option I could click in the i-Drive to disable it but clearly not! I'm reasonably computer literate but am not about to risk screwing things up and voiding the warranty on a new £40k car - I will therefore just stick to turning the stop/start off each time I start the car!Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
