When you thought the 1 series couldn't get any uglier...reminds me of the 106 Rallye and I hated the wheels on that too.
106 Rallyes on steels are a wonderful thing.
Dare I say it, the current 1 series side profile is so much better than the first gen cars and with those steels looks fine.
I'd be interested to see a 1 series with some Compomotive TH lines as they appear a little like steels
It makes the car look like a poverty spec that had it's wheel trims stolen! - Not a fan!
I do get the idea that it's a case of function over form, but personally, I'd go with some cheap, easy clean alloys to put winter tyres on.
(Funnily enough, I had an email through from BMW recently offering winter tyre packages from £551. When I checked out the size I would require, the price was £1795!)

Pah, 17" inch Winters for a 6 series - £2100 sir, 18" ones were about £2500....I do get the idea that it's a case of function over form, but personally, I'd go with some cheap, easy clean alloys to put winter tyres on.

Are these X1 steelies? The M135i/140i is not homologated for use with steel wheels sadly.
Whilst some countries produce detailed registration documents (e.g. Germany) which specify which wheels & tyres are permissible, the UK doesn't. You average MOT tester wouldn't care if they were alloys or steelies, nor would they be overly bothered about tyre sizes. So no one polices it basically. I'm not even sure insurance companies can be arsed in the event of a claim.BFleming said:

Only one that accepts snow chains is the 205/50 R17. Steelies only for the 4cyl. in 16".
X1 and E46 17"-steel wheels will fit no problem; and imo they look good. I prefer the E46 type, as it has a chrome centre cap:

Cheap alloys make it look like you are trying, but can afford very little.I do get the idea that it's a case of function over form, but personally, I'd go with some cheap, easy clean alloys to put winter tyres on.
Steelies make it look like you don't give a toss about what other people think, and are going for pure function.
Steelies are like a tough Scottish warrior wearing a kilt on a windy day. The fashion conscious suited man will see a bloke in a skirt flashing his hairy nads, but we all know which of the two men one means business.
I tried to get black steelies for my 535d a while back, but failed. Had to go for 17" alloys and I still feel like a failure, despite them looking decidedly odd (F10 M Sport).

ETA: (Apologies to the OP but...) I really think the 1 series is an ugly, tarty car. But that blue 140 with black steelies looks cool enough to actually buy, with real money and not even on the never never. It says: I'm here for the fun, not to look like a tit.
Yup, I'm here for the fun - and don't care if I look like a tit! Trying to source some black steelies for my Z4M as well, as that would be a blast on steelies and winter rubber. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
