320d to 340i - about to place the order
Discussion
I have been running a 320d sport as a company car for nearly 4 years. It goes back in March.
I have decided to take the cash allowance and buy a private car the choice being a 340i touring. On paper it just seems to tick all the boxes for me.
Not driven one yet but the local dealer should have one arriving next week which they have said I can have for the day.
Reference spec I am thinking heated front seat and MSport plus pack are a must. Anything else that I should be thinking about as options without pushing the budget sky high.

Did exactly the same a few months ago and did not look back. Options I went for are msport plus pack, interior comfort pack, media package professional, rear view camera, folding mirrors and adaptive suspension. Always want more but that met my budget and needs. Sometimes I feel like the hud would have been nice like a number of other options but happy with what I went for overall.

Folding mirrors as I don't think they are standard. Useful given cars size if parking on streets, in garage.
Does it come with RFTs, if so will they swap to ordinary tyres.
M Sport Plus pack I think gives 19s, that and RFTs on my old E92 was dreadful ride!
The ride with 19s, the newer run flats and adaptive suspension is extremely good, especially when using comfort mode.Does it come with RFTs, if so will they swap to ordinary tyres.

Will probably be doing the same come renewal and swap from company lease to cash allowance. List price of the 330d at with bik tax at 40% is ridiculous, works out far cheaper for both the company and me to do it privately.
Won't have to worry about emissions either so a 340 touring could be a good possibility.

Plenty of opinion here:

I would think the AS is the key. Without it the ride's not going to be 'good' on 19" wheels, whatever the tyres. IMO.

In the optional extras on the configurator it mentions that they fold electrically. Does this mean that mirrors that can be folded manually are standard but you can spec electric ones, or does it mean that they won't fold at all unless you spec the electric ones? My ancient E36 has manual folding mirrors which were standard so I'd be surprised if a new 340i didn't. It's a bit ambiguous.Nick_C said:

I'll second that I've had a 340 touring with adaptive and msport plus pack for 12 months , 12000 miles now , and I think it's a great car . I must say though now the temp has dropped the ride isn't as good and I've noticed the car following the road camber a bit more . It may just be me jumping between cars but the wife's slc 43amg does drive better in the cold weather , it's also a lot faster and more fun with the factory lsd , very annoyingly Nick

Am I right in saying you cannot get LED/Xenon headlights unless you for the expensive pack? And therefore if you want 18's you have to put up with halogen lights? Really dislike big wheels but want good lights.
Looking at the brochure LEDs are standard on all M Sports. The confusion is the configurator calls this the M Sport Package which does suggest it's an addition! The expensive pack, with big wheels, is M Sport PLUS Package. £2k
So you can have LEDs and 18s. Exactly what I'd go for.
I have brochure on PDF, easy to get by registering your details, but I can email you a copy if you message me.

For the 340i, LEDs are standard - you can also spec adaptives without a pack. This might sound Bizarre but I had never had heated seats before never noticed the cold however they are great problem is it only highlighted last winter how freezing the steering wheel is when you get in Ice cold again never thought about it before the heated seats ,so if you get the one id get tother.

What are these so called 'newer runflats' people seem to go on about? I see the same ranges of tyres from the same manufacturers available so there seems little evidence that there is some sort of amazing new generation of soft runflats around...Nick
