My rusty wheel issue.... does anyone else have this problem???

Just over 6 weeks ago I picked up my new E90 335i M Sport... now only 3300 miles down the road the wheel hubs are covered in rust! Not what I expect from BMW

I visited my dealer (Cooper Tunbridge Wells) about 2 weeks ago for a warrantee claim to get the parts replaced.

I was told that BMW UK has told dealers to stop replacing these parts as it is not a mechanical fault but realise it doesn't look very nice, but because the car is so new they put forward a 'good will plea' to BMW UK to get the parts replaced anyway...

Skip forward 2 weeks....

I have just had a phone call from Coopers in T Wells and I was told that the 'good will plea' was successful and BMW will supply the parts free of charge (I should think so) BUT I was told that I would have to pay £350 + VAT to get them fitted. (they will not let me fit the parts myself).

So... to summarise... £40,000+ car, 6 weeks old, 3300 miles, rust on all the wheel hubs... and the owner has to pay nearly £400 to correct it!

Its disgusting!

Since then I have spoke to someone else at my dealership who seems a bit more helpful, I explained that I want the dealership to show 'good will' by fitting the parts free of charge, he is seeing what can be done... I will keep you informed on the outcome...

Rust is NOT acceptable.... FULL STOP

If I didn't care what the car looked like I wouldn't have spent all this money on a brand new BMW!

'Good Will' Bloody Cheek!

Does anyone have experience of this problem???

Hi Matt,

BMW said if the part is going to continue to rust ill be in there every 4 weeks wanting them to be changed! This is half the reason why they no longer replace them under warentee.

Although the point is that because a part keeps rusting the answer is not to just stop replacing the part, the answer is to replace the part with something that will not rust...

Also they said that if I am going to paint them why should they give me the new ones, I might aswell just paint the rusty ones! (que... very unhappy customer at that point)

Time will tell as to how BMW intend to resolve this...
