Gents, I am currently planning the next motorcar for next year, and at the moment the 335 seems to fit the bill most admirably... thing is, there doesnt seem to be much to choose between a diesel and a petrol. The will have to be an auto (shame, I know...); what do you lot think? The head says diesel due to the economy and supposedly better resale value, but the heart says petrol sounds better and goes better... also, I hate the smell of diesel, love the smell of petrol!

This very question was asked of Autocar's Colin Goodwin recently. His answer was the 335d.
auto for both as well? what swung it for the 335d? I spoke to a dealer and he said 335d all the way, but you never know what their angle is...

if it new as a 333dw , i reckon you can haggle for a bigger discount on 335i as a 335d will be more in demand
Am I likely to get much of a discount off list on a new 3 series?

just read in evo today that they've got some pretty major problems with their 335i fleet car... any known reliability issues here? I wouldnt have thought that the bhp/litre was pushing the envelope that much for the likes of BMW surely?

I've been perusing the websites for AC Schnitzer and Hartge over the weekend... certainly seem to be plenty of goodies available for these cars (LSD being a good one!); anyone know these tuners?

is it an easy job? Is it a sound-only mod? Any other effects on car/engine/emmissions etc...?

330i forget the Turbo's, read last Evo on there 335i, i have a new 530i, engine is as sweet as honey roast nuts, car is as fast as you will ever want on the road and 35mpg, the 3 is lighter so will be even better plus you will save about £5k, new 6 speed auto a gem
been looking at the specs, and I think you have a point! 330i satisfies the head side (good mpg, low emmissions and hence BIK etc etc) and also the heart side (3 litre petrol straight six and 270 odd horses!) plus, it's cheaper than both 335s... I think I might have a winner...

trying to get a test drive sorted out... what are the BMW flappy paddle autos like? I've driven a Cambriocorsa Maserati (a guff 'box) and a Golf GTI DSG (very nice, I like!)...

cheers
