If I want to get an E34 for everyday driving what’s the best all rounder for performance, and cost? I’m between a 2.5 6 pot, or a 3.0 V8, with manual boxes. But what’s better? I’m also very tempted by a touring estate. The car would be a late model as to avoid Nikasil problems.

I have had an E39 528i which was driven into and written off and the 518i E34 banger I brought as a cheap quick replacement has been a great car and far more simple and reliable that my E39 use to be. Its just a bit slow and not really as refined as a 5er should be so I'm now on the look out for one with something??? bigger under the bonnet.

Any views would be appreiated!

Yea a 4 litre would be absolutely great. But what mpg should I expect, insurance could be steep, and most importantly, how easy are they to get – someone on the internet says only 60 manual RHDs tourings were made by BMW, so I guess it is getting hard to find a good one these days?
