Anyone have experience of the new version of idrive yet?
I went to my dealer yesterday hoping to have a play, and was astonished that they did not have a car on which they could show it to me - I suppose it is evidence of how much pre-August production metal is still sitting around.
Autocar's 330d test last week was glowing about idrive 2 - so I expect the graphics are good and it is more intuitive to use. However, in discussion at the dealer I learned that this brand new nav system does not offer full UK post code entry. How can they find it difficult to add a feature which is present in every sub-£100 handheld satnav? And when Ford and VW have introduced touch-screen systems, why do the more expensive German brands expect you to use a single controller?
Will it be possible to upgrade to the new system? Does anyone know if the new software only comes on hard-drive based systems, in which case any upgrade would obviously required a totally new system?
