Right, I have purchased said items. Mk3 computer and E46 specific widescreen. Is it simply plug and play?

Provided you've definately already got nav in the form of the Mk2 Computer and 4:3 display then yes, it should be plug and play smile
Nice one.

Fingers crossed.

All installed but have no volume.

Any ideas?

Oh, what is a "trimble"?

Update, the orange light next to volume will not illuminate.

Head unit is a CD version but when you press mode, it gives a tape option...

You've got 3 connections on the back of the nav Computer.

1 blue
1 purple/red
1 like a small stud that takes a thin black wire

The thin black wire is what used to go to the trimble on your Mk2.

The trimble is a small metal box about the size of a fag packet.
Do I cut the black wire then?

What does the trimble do?

Have a look at the last picture in the series on the linky and all will be revealed.

So, do you think if that black DSP wire was not connected properly, that could cause the lack of volume?

Why the orange light on head unit also?

No coz that's the Nav only. If it wasn't connected you'd have no Nav. If I remember it's a screw in fitting so just make sure it's screwed up tight.

The orange light not illuminated means your head unit is switched off. have you pressed the left hand (as you look at it) button. That's the on/off switch for the sound functions on the HU.
Yes mate, pressed it about 1000 timesbiggrin

Everything else is working apart from volume....

The car is a 2000 model 328 Coupe.

It had the old small screen/tape nav installed from new and MK2 nav computer. It has standard speakers from what I know.

All I have done is literally plug and play all items.

When I select Nav, it asks me to insert disc ( don't have one at moment )

When I scroll thru mode on HU, it gives a Tape option even though HU is a CD one.

HU doesn't recognise CD changer.

No volume on HU and orange tell tale light will not illuminate.

Is the radio module plugged in? What model Radio Module is it, a BM24?
From memory, there were two connector blocks. One being white and one, blue.

What came out of old HU went into new HU.

Where is this module you speak of?

It's in the boot with the rest of the gubbins. It's a small unit about the size of a couple of backup tapes or something.
Would that stop volume coming thru?

I think it could do, as it's what provides all your audio IIRC. Could be wrong though? Worth a check.
Is it only cars with nav that have them?
