320td e46 Vs 328i e36

I have a 320td and am looking to change.

Really want a pertrol but i dont know which one to buy as there are loads (i think) 328i 325i and so on.

So whats the performance like on these petrols??

Also if i was to buy a 328 what sort of millage one would i get for 4,000 and whats the insurance like?

would love a e46 330i but sadly the insurance companies dont seem to think i should have one, quoting me around 3grand per annum. do you know of a good insurance company that i could get a quote from>?
