Yup. Can't see why not. The same reason why I lust over s1000rr's. As long as it's usable and not like that awe full turbod r1 video then hell yeah I'd want it. There's the argument that people don't use all the power they've got. Well there's 11 year olds that can lap faster than me on a 125 due to much higher skill levels. 300hp isn't going to make me corner any faster, but that doesn't matter, there's still plenty of rides out I've been on that I've used all of a litre bikes horsepower on fast sweepers and straight lines. It'd be just the same with 300hp except rather than my testes retreating to my stomach they'd go right up into my chest somewhere, I'd still slow down on the corners to match my current skill level.
For me not really.
Peak power for road based bikes isn't the important thing agree with others its a nice fat flat torque curve (line ideally) through the rev range.
However peak power for sports bikes sells them. Personally having ridden the latest zx10r it has an almost stupid amount acceleration and top end power for road situations over and above my far from slow blackbird, a sports bike certainly doesn't need circa 100bhp more.
Assuming we're talking about this new supercharged ninja H2, really not sure of the point of it apart from on a racetrack.

Coincide with this maybe?

I've voted "no", but I'm having second thoughts.
My reason is the 170bhp I have now gets opened up every now and then, but as said a lot of high end bikes these days will nearly DOUBLE the NSL in sub 10 seconds. It's all the power I'll probably ever want and then some.
My second thoughts being, why not. The 170hp VFR is comfortable to ride at pedestrian speeds, so if it doesn't interfere with rideability, why not?
