Not quite the reaction Derbyshire plod hoped for....

Reminds me of a story a few year back.....I remember getting stopped in Weardale by police bikes "targeting" bikers to give a bit of a safety lecture early in the biking season. I didnt actually mind this until said copper started getting arsey with me due to me having my arms folded when being spoken to. (I have reynauds and my hands were tucked tightly into my armpits for warmth!) His words were " I dont like your NVC's!!" - when asked what he meant he barked "NON VERBAL COMMUNICATIONS - YOURE BEING DEFENSIVE AND AREN'T LISTENING ARE YOU?!"
He then began threatening to do me for an illegal race can, dark visor etc etc. until his female partner came over and calmed him down!
being about 5" 2"" it seems he had a major case of small man syndrome and was eager to do me for anything, so his partner told us to be on our way lol. We spotted a load of other bikes coming into the village so warned them an angry little plod was after bikers blood so they turned round and went back ha.
Nowt to do with this thread but felt good to relive this memory !

As per previous topics about the Matlock area, Derbyshire Police do this every year - have a huge clampdown on bikers, sometimes pulling every bike using the A6 into Matlock into a layby for 'safety' checks. Checks that invariably end in as many fines as possible being issued.
Couple this with the newly introduced on-street parking charges for bikes in Matlock and they may get their wish of it becoming a bike free zone...

These mass police biker clamp downs means I stopped going to regular biker haunts esp those very busy summer ones like box hill because it becomes a police fest due to bikers c**king around on the public road in the general area of the meeting place/event.
I used to play the game of counting the number of drivers holding/using mobile device on my morning commute in London but I saw so many I lost count and now can't be bothered its so rife. Worst I spotted recently was a proper London Black cab wandering around in his lane - the t**t was on facebook - seriously this should be loss of cab license and jail - pro drivers like this has zero excuse.
Generally in traffic queues esp in london if you spot a car/vehicle badly positioned/drifting around in its lane, not keeping up with the traffic slow (i.e. very very slow) reaction times to traffic moving off from a standstill you're 99% likely to spot the driver on the phone. This last one is dangerous on dual carridgeway roads because the queue jockies in the opps lane spot the fake gap (because thats what it is).. and it dupes them into thinking that lane is moving quicker when it isn't.. you get the zero notice lane change when you're filtering down the middle... I am very wary of this!
Basically there is pretty much zero enforcement of anything that ANPR/Cameras can't detect in London - you'd have to blatantly commit the offense in front of a cop car to stand any chance of being stopped.

This is pretty much it. Policing on the roads is now left to ANPR and Speed Camera Partnerships, until they start these 'Operations' to target certain user groups. sjtscott said:

Completely agree with this. The amount of people on their phone coming into London is a joke. I have only ever witnessed one motorcyclist get stopped and that was because he had the loudest exhaust in the world on a 990 KTM and was weaving around at a ridiculous speed past harrods. This won't be popular but...
In their defence, a lot of riders don't do a lot to help themselves. People know they'll get tugged in something like this for having a tiny plate but they'll still make that conscious decision to fit one, based on the balance of probabilities. They'll still fit the noisiest most antisocial exhaust they can find and they'll still ride without consideration for anyone else.
If you're making that decision to be a tug magnet, through your modifications or through your riding, I personally don't believe you have a right to complain when it happens. Yes, the amount of other, more serious, bike-related crime (thefts, scooters) is arguably more important but that doesn't mean minor issues should get a free pass.
Flame away.

I agree if those are the only bikers they are pulling but I bet they would pull you on the way to a concourse event on your CB90 just because bike. Thats the problem when Cheech and Chong car drivers on the phone go on their merry way.Rawwr said:

I actually agree.. if you have illegal stuff fitted esp plates on the bike - exhausts in my view are a grey area - but obnoxiously loud in my view fit into the category as a small plate and/or ride like an idiot on the public road you only have yourself to blame. Hence myself not wanting the hassle of being pulled over with 100% road legal kit on my bike for a going over inconveniencing me because I turned up at a bike meet.In their defence, a lot of riders don't do a lot to help themselves. Its cyclic e.g. the dual carridgeway running next to boxhill/rykers wouldn't be my choice (sic) of pulling a standup wheelie exceeding the 50 limit given the quantity of police generally around - but people still do it and then wonder why there are more police and/or get pulled over.
But round east london where I live this time of year onwards in the summer months you've got 4 cyl sports bikes being ridden flat out through the gears during the night with race systems and NOTHING being done about it... 20/30/40 max of 50 limits further east on on the A13 with speed avg cameras. Nicked, no plates you name it full speed stand up wheelies, rolling burnouts etc etc. Plenty of perf cars also driving in similar flat out manner too... there is a C63 coupe local to me thats usually full of 4 lads who thrap the cr*p out of it round the isle of dogs now 20 (down from 30) limit.
LOL what a joke.
I have to take issue with this comment on that site:
Except, we REALLY DO, want you to stop targeting bikers for such major crimes as smaller number plates and louder exhausts, neither of which contribute to road deaths involving motorcycles.
I suppose there is an argument for 'small plate = more aesthetically pleasing" but let's be honest: most riders using a small plate do so because it is more difficult to be spotted by the naked eye or a camera when speeding. i.e. the smaller the plate, the lesser the chance of being nicked for speeding, I suspect the logic goes. .
With inappropriate speed being a factor in some bike accidents (yes, I know, it's always a SMIDSY, but if you're doing 60 in a 30 you ain't helping yourself) I can understand why Plod want to nick people with small plates to discourage said speeding.

If it's OK for us to ride overly noisy bikes with small plates and tinted visors, then why do we have a problem with chances up cars with huge exhausts, being driven at stupid speeds with tinited windows?
Pick the right spot and we can have fun, pick the wrong place and you're asking for a pull. Just avoid Derbyshire now, or more specifically Matlock Bath which I've never seen the attraction of anyway.

The sad thing is that although this is brilliant the odds are that if dibble sees it then they can probably do the rider for an illegal plate, 3 of us got pulled for a safety chat a few years ago on the way to devils bridge, the fourth rider with us stopped to wait and after checking our bikes, all ok , no issue whatsoever , the copper saw that rider 4 had a red surround on his plate, and was told this was illegal and got a £30 fine.
Safety checks my arse.

It isn't just motorcyclists.
The Police/Scamera Mob/DVSA run these sorts of campaigns all the time, it is just bikers really do like to whinge like a bunch of girlies.
Lorry drivers get this sort of stuff all the time.
Caravaners have been having it recently, because like motorcyclists they think the rules don't apply to them, and in their case many of them don't have the licence required to drive "their rig", or haven't fitted towing mirrors when they meet the very easy to understand criteria to need them by law.
If you ride with a small plate, noisy exhaust, incorrect licence, whatever, then tough.
