Right had this discussion with my mates on Saturday and needed a little help..

I’m 26' got an R1 and been riding on the roads for 3 months. I have a girl under 2 and news just in that im expecting my second. I love my bike but friends recon its only a matter of time and I should quit why im ahead.. They know im a little bit of a speed freak. Am I being selfish? to top this off ive come into a little bit of cash and was going to px my 2000 R1 for a 2008. I could look like the doctor..

What would you do?

I'd keep the R1 and take some extra training to help you enjoy the R1 more and give you more experience. This will make you safer and hopefully mean you still get to see the littleuns.

I wouldn't get rid of the bike, you could get run over tomorrow by a bus - everything has a risk, just mitigate it the best you can (hence the training recommendation).

I guess if you don't ask, you don't get. I suspect that on this occasion, you still won't get though smile

Css would be the way forward. They teach you how to ride abike, not pass a test... all in the relative safety of the track. I got huge amounts out of it....convinced I was ready for Motogp at the end of it.

If you're pregnant, I'd ride untill you can't get your leathers on. Then give it a rest untill about 2 months after.

I'm not 100%, but I don't think TOM is pregnant.

Some sound advice..
- soss was spot on.
Im going to book myself in for that training..

"To clear up some other comments"

If you dont ask you dont get'- sorry but i cant push a double buggy round the park, whatchin you knee slide round the corner into the distance on the bike I paid for..
Im not pregnant, its just "cushion for the pushin" My mrs's on the other hand is a different story!#

Wish me luck when I tell her over dinner im heading to the track..

As for my friends.. maybe I need some new ones!

It may be an unusual opinion here, but I'd get rid of the bike until they are a bit older. I've got an agreement with my other half that if/when she gets pregnant, the bike the will go. I just think a risky hobby is too selfish when you've got other responsibilities.

Each to their own, and I wouldn't judge anyone else for having a different opinion to mine, but I'd use the money differently and would do whatever I could to see the children grow up, and if on balance that means giving up biking, then that's what I'll do.

I agree with the above. It won't be a popular opinion but with a child, and a second on the way riding a bike on the road is selfish. If it was just down to your actions you could justify it, but as a large percentage of RTAs involving bikes are no fault of the bikers, and more often than not the biker comes of MUCH worse than if in a cage, it's not the thing to do.

I love riding, but as soon as I find out i've got a kid on the way the bike is gone. That's easy for me to say as i'm 27 and single but when it's just not your life you'd fk up things are different.

Get a track bike, trackdays are much much safer and will cover your itch.

Cheers mate.. Made me feel guilty now..!

Last week I Canx brands Hatch with the lads as I had free Redbull air race tickets with the family' they told me about craig and I herd that two local bikers died last weekend as well. I had a near miss last week and that is what prompted these thoughts.

Solution then is to go to the doctors and get the snip. Now there are no chance of kids (well that are yours), you keep bike biggrin
