So, I've been tootling around on a borrowed R6 for a while now and thinking about buying something. I daren't even tell you what it is smile Its extreme, put it that way.

Just out of interest, those that bought crazy first bikes...what was it and how did you cope?

is it a VMAX your thinking of getting? or a 'Busa?

i think the vmax is a bit radical to look at, but its grown on me.

I got a GSXR600 as my first bike.

Hardly extreme really, although it was compared to the DAS bikes. It is fast, but any bike is capable of the speed limit.

I had never ridden a bike of any shape or form what-so-ever, 4 and a half days later I was riding around on a ninja 600.

I just gave it a lot of respect, read up a lot and practiced a lot. I still felt the need to upgrade it 7 months later though! biggrin

Having said all that I think it's quite common for people to jump straight on a sports 600 nowadays.

No, I'm looking at a custom streetfighter with tuned GSXR1100 internals smile Insanity has set in.

It is an absolute work of art...but I'm worried insurance companies will laugh at me and it will end up sitting in the garage being stared at endlessly and longingly smile

if you've been riding for a few years and have some NCD it shouldnt be "that" bad, hopefully.

Brand new Yamaha DT50... What a mental beast! Did 45mph whilst still restricted, down hill! Had those elderly folk in their motorised buggy's quaking...
Managed about 80mph with the wind behind me by the time i sold it but it was looking like some over-enthusiastic 16 y.o had owned it.. (which was about right. biggrin )

My first was a TL1000S; but I have balls of steel! laugh

Actually it was love at first ride (after trying a BMW650 sleep and a Triumph Thunderbird . . . yes - I had no idea what I wanted at the time!) and it was a cracking first bike, not that I would recommend this plan to anyone else, but for me it was great.

Passed my test and within an hour I rode away form the Honda dealer on a new Fireblade!!!

Nearly three months and six thousand miles later, I am still in one piece and having a wonderful time.

Respect!

It's not what you have that matters, but what you do with it . . . err . . . is that right? wink

My ex-wife, who was about 5ft 4 and slim built, had a Yam FJ1200 for her first bike having passed her test on a borrowed Honda 100.

This sounds a bit dated now....although it was a few years ago, I went from a CB125RS to a GSX1100ESD which had been bored out to 1300cc and had cosworth pistons, tweeked head, larger carbs. To add to this it ran standard suspension and brakes....and the original anti-dive front forks
I bought it off a friend of a friend who drag raced the GSX's and this was his road bike.

It was fantastic in a straight line and an anchor would have been more effective than the brakes.

CG125 to GSXR 600 when I passed my test but if I had the budget at the time I would have bought the 750 but still love my 600 - does all I need and more when I get it on a track biggrin
