Oh that's really stty - hadn't checked this thread since I saw you'd got a good offer

Bright side - you're not hurt - that's all that matters really

From dealing with a few accidents, even on a snotter, anything that isn't 100% will be replaced, it's why so many cars / bikes are written off in low speed accidents

Sorry to see this happened, wow, after getting a replacement too. At least you're not injured.

I would suspect tyres too but it's a hard guess to make given the fact you were running it in and it doesn't look like a sharp corner either.

That is truly awful. Having had such a good outcome from what had been a bad experience, this is a tragedy. I really feel for you.

Well, what a turn of events!
First, glad you are ok. As for the accident cause etc, your post about 5000rpm in 5th made me raise eyebrows...what 20 miles on the clock? I've never ridden a 1200RS, but peak power is not so far from my superduke and that would be pretty 70 odd mph on mine! ! Cold roads, new tyres...!

I got my superduke on 30th Dec 2017, it was still snow on the ground! The running in process was not fun!

Glad you are ok, but I am thinking your 1200 RS days may be over! They are not lucky for you, that's for sure!

I’m sure the tyres played a large part in this. You have to seriously question the logic of putting track, cut slick tyres on what is clearly primarily a road bike. What amazes me even more is that Triumph fit these same Metzler Racetec RR’s to the Speed Twin - a retro roadster!!

When my bike comes out of winter hibernation I’ll be switching tyres to something more suitable. I wouldn’t even want to be caught in the rain on these.

Frame ?

It didn't look that bad or is it just scratched ?

Blimey!

So roughly the cost of a new one?

Is that nearly the complete BOM for a full bike? smile

That's quite the shopping list! Surprised at how reasonable some bits are, 400-odd quid for the headlight doesn't seem too bad for example.

I thought that for the wheel to be honest, even the tyres seemed cheap compared to the high street.

Saying that it's going to be written off looking at the estimate and that's all they can see currently.

I think a write off and replacement bike is the best outcome.

Some strange items on there. 12 litres of coolant at nearly £100?

It's further evidence that it's not cost-effective to buy a bike one piece at a time...!

Far canal! Talk about bad luck.

That BOM doesn't surprise me either, when I stacked my S1000R I put together a rudimentary BOM to repair that, but stopped once I'd reached 22k! When I saw the damage to your bike and then reading your subsequent posts I was guessing on it being 11k +

I'm not sure I want to read your next update on this thread either. After the run of luck you've had recently it wouldn't surprise me to hear that your bike has caught fire while being assessed at the dealership and burned the entire place to the ground!

I feel for ya TN and I really hope your luck turns soon.

I think you now need to turn your thoughts to what you’re going to replace it with?

Presumably you've now got to argue about what it's worth with the insurer

There might be some profit in buying the salvage - it's definitely worth asking for a price at least, if you don't want it, I might - giving you a profit on the way

You came out well with Triumph so maybe you will again but their attitude it that it's used not new - it's why some take out gap insurance

They’ve got 12l of coolant at £89 on page 2 as well as that 2l at £15. It’s the same code.

When I wrote off my speedmaster at 600 miles and 5 months it was a standard brand new replacement - no questions and no additional gap insurance required. I actually negotiated them to a cash payout as I wanted a different bike.

I've read these last few pages a couple times and I'll just say I'm glad it's just the bike. Things can happen in the blink of an eye

I'm glad you're ok mate and other than pride there's no injuries. It's a pita but insurance can sort and like we said earlier gives you time to think third time lucky or look at something else

Cough Aprilia are amazing cough cough
