Could you leave it unattended in London somewhere for a while and hope nature takes its course?

Fingers crossed the thief would lock the front up too.

I have a feeling I might struggle to find an insurer at all after an incident like that and would end up on a proper snotter with just third party cover. Unfortunately I know of quite a few London bikers who've been left in this position.

Your next premium will likely price you out of biking if you did this. It's already 4 figures to insure most bikes in the City.

What about part x'ing it and putting the £1900 towards something else
It's a tempting excuse, and I've even had a quick peruse and there's one particular bike I really like the look of- a yellow CB650F on a 65 plate and even the number plate is the first 3 letters of my very rare surname all for £4299, low miles and being sold by a Honda dealer (everything on it looks immaculate).

I think my plan however should be to repair the bike. Firstly I need to sort out the fork stanchions and see if the issue with hitting the rad is resolved, that's key. After that it's a bunch of consumables that I can hopefully get done cheaper or even attempt myself.

I've had a look online at a lot of videos and I think I would be tempted to try most repairs on the bike, except the fork stanchions for now. It doesn't look crazy difficult but there are a few points where it could be tricky and I don't want to get it wrong. Hopefully I'll get a proper diagnosis on Monday and fingers crossed it's not too long before I'm back on the bike.

On another note, one of the main reasons for buying a used bike was because I commute into central London and intentionally chose an older bike hoping it would be less of a theft target. And for my current commute it's very comfy and I'm really loving the frunk for putting my lunch and other bits into.
BUM?

Had my MOT last week, she passed with an advisory for valve stem cracked.
Can I just go to any tyre place to have it replaced or does it have to be a place that supplies/ fits bike tyres

Any suggestions on shops to take her too - I'm in Lancaster?

Pretty sure you have to take the tyre off and fit the valve from the inside don't you? In which case it'll need to be a bike specific place

A lot of car places will still be able to do it, especially if you can get away without balancing it again. Call and check.

I take my bike wheels to the local F1 Autocentre. I had to drop the rear wheel out and get a tyre plugged by ATS, on my way to an interview, on an old Kawasaki a few years ago.

Lancaster Motorcycles on White Lund are a friendly bunch, or there's GS motorcycles in Kendal, which is a bit further for you, I'd recommend you stick to a bike shop as car places won't have the kit to remove bike tyres normally, and get it done asap, as it will deflate pretty quickly if it fails smile

Hi,

Any advise on getting out the stock bar ends? They are a philips screw type, no idea why, and i can't get them to budge. I assume they will be held on with lock tight?

Thanks!

Use an impact driver, something like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Soft-Grip-Hammer-Hand-I...

If it's a Jap bike, you really need JIS screwdriver bits, but this will do the job. You can get JIS bits for these, or a set made by Vessel.

Yes you can, I had the same issue with mine and did exactly what you are suggesting, you'll find its a co-axial type cable rather than a live/neutral pair so its a little more fiddly but doable.

Why, despite being available for almost a few years, does nobody ever seem to mention or post a picture of the new R6 on here?

Ok I’m coming into the world of motorbiking and looking at gear, I’ve seen a helmet design I like and it’s a replica - are these acceptable? Or is it like putting on a football kit with someone else’s name printed on the back for a 5 a side match

It’s fine. But pick one that fits first, then pick the colour.

It's personal preference at the end of the day, but one thing to remember is that the motorbiking community is (with very minor exception) a more accepting and tolerant group than football fans smile

Because no-one bought one, and they don't appear on anyone's radar, 600's are for girls.

Cheers guys, couldn’t find any guidance on that sort of etiquette online. I’m from a road cycling background, where anyone you see with any sort of pro team kit is a nailed on nobber and to be avoided at all costs

This is good advice.

This isn't.

I'll wager my house to a steaming pile of dog-st that your bar-ends are not JIS.

Since someone mentioned JIS in a thread a few months ago, every man and his dog has suddenly become the world expert in fasteners.

JIS is used very rarely, even in Japan, as it is more expensive to manufacture (because it is used so rarely...) and is only really needed for high-torque applications.
Bizarrely, the place on your bike you are most likely to see JIS is the screws on your front brake fluid reservoir cap (a low-torque application).

One came off by impact, the other wouldn’t budge, even with an air impact driver so the head was drilled off. Luckily the very friend bunch at PDQ Developments are 2 mins from my house so I popped down there and they helped in the end. Pesky bar ends!
