thats really fu*cking rude!
And yet to the point.and like others have said whats to point in life if your not gonna pursue ur dreams... he might get 20K in deabt from it. but at the end of the day it only money. if he is broke but enjoying his life surely thats better than squirreling away everything you get for that rainy day that never comes...
i just dont like to read/hear people shooting down peoples ideas/dreams... however ludicrous/unattainable they may appear

So you would condone £20k worth of debt but its ok because he is happy?
How ridiculous.
I'm not shooting down Liams dreams. If he does do it i have set him a challenge. Im sure most of us would even be up for going to help him spanner at a race day.
I think he would need it but yes I would. He just needs to be weary, I couldn't recommend getting that much in debt to pursue a bit of a pipe dream and you certainly don't get owt for nowt in Motorsport. How ridiculous.

If you can sustain it then why not? How ridiculous.

I think before everybody has a mental image of Liam getting into 5 figure debt/going bankrupt/pawning his mum it's worth remembering he's only talking about trying out track riding, maybe leading into racing at Club level at most.
He seems to have been given enough cautions about projected costs so I don't think we're yet talking a full BSB Superbike season are we ? :

You don't have to get into debt. Work hard. Save harder. No debt.
I'm aware it isn't free
You do if you want to start at a young age and be competitive unless you have some form of backing or inheritance. The owt for nowt comment was aimed at Liam saying he woul be supplied a bike. I can only think this would happen if he paid for a team ride.I'm aware it isn't free

I take it you're going to live with your parents till you've saved enough to buy a house outright?
OK. So an extreme example of a house purchase vs. a year's racing. I'll give you that. But I can imagine if I said to my old man when I was 16 can you get the bank to lend me £20k because I'm not even old enough to have a credit card he would have told me to foxtrot Oscar.
Likewise if I had said to him "oh dad, I'm going to spunk £20k on a years racing instead of moving out" he would of also told me the same.
I think the point people are missing here is Liam, who rides a 50cc super bike wants to go racing having never even been on a track day and wants to waste a load of cash doing so in the process...
I never said people shouldn't have dreams. But you should have priorities.

why not... if he mounts up debt that he is paying then whats the issue?.. happiness is worth a lot. im 27 now. i wish i would have pursued more in my youth as opposed to being swayed by other peoples opinions. as at the end of the day, thats all they are... youve got to live your own life for yourself as sooner than you think it can all be gone! How ridiculous.

I think if he was a little older you'd all have told him to fk off pages ago.
As I said earlier he has changed and become a little attention we because certain members on here pander to his stupid fantasist questions - Like they're protecting him and given him virtual shelter under their wings with a little pat on the head. "There. Done my bit. Now I can tell all my mates how nice I am"
I've been on PH a long time and have seen it many times before.
Nip it in the bud before it gets out of control.
I'm sure if he does come back he"ll have learnt his lesson. (If CW7 hasn't poisoned him by then)

How can you sustain debt? Its debt at the end of the day? Why not save money first?
There's nothing wrong with debt if it's manageable. If you need to pay a little more in the long run in order to have something now, instead of in a few years time, I don't see the issue. I've been in various stages of debt since I was 18, all due to cars and bikes, and I have no regrets.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
