I don't think anyone would dispute it doesn't make sense to buy a bike you're not going to use. I fully intend on taking mine on some light off road and dropping the st out of it.

But in defence of those who just want to keep it on the roads, it does still make sense. Where else can you get things like a DCT gearbox, good range, useable ~100bhp, perceived build quality and reliability, riding position, or even close for this price point?

Completely agree with prof.

I will miss the GSXR greatly, but i won't miss having to ride 1 handed through 30mph limits due to wrist ache, I WILL miss the insane rush and induction roar when going through the 1st 4 gears, but the speed i achieve in this time is insane.

I really enjoyed the test ride on the AT, it was a completely different type of fun and the speed was just scaled down.

Can't wait till Saturday, the last time i picked up a new bike was a GSXR750 ww in 1998!

Just how excited can you get about an Africa Twin?
I still don't get it.
Some old geezer I know keeps buying loads of st tools because he thinks he's getting a bargain.
I keep telling him "If you already have one, or don't need one anyway, it doesn't matter how much of a bargain it is. What's the point?"
Quite excited.

I love motorbikes and this is a new one for me.

This isn't a st tool and we are getting a bargain.

I ride every day for hours a day, this will get used.(I have a couple of R1's - one track and one road and also a commuter with intergalactic mileage)

Don't be so boring.

Another plus for having a larger adventure bike for the road is that it's massively tall, so you're very visible to other road users and you can generally see over the top of the car in front

Yep, just ordered a Red one.

Couldn't really ignore it at that price and it'll complement the Blade nicely.

i too intend to go (mildly) offroad and drop it smile

Just got to blag a lift up from Kent or sort the train!

Cheers!

Like I said, I'm more excited about picking up the AT tomorrow than I was about picking up my SP back in April. It's just because I've always had sports bikes so you know you're just buying a bit of evolution but I've never owned an adventure bike so it's a whole new thing for me. It's going to be great!

I could have collected mine tomorrow but waiting for my mates bikes to arrive.

Stupid levels of Africa Twin excitement.

No more 140mph rides.. stupid wheelies and the urge to get the bike on its side at every opportunity. Save that for track.

[I hope a DCT is ok to wheelie!] wink

I really want the foot shifter but the Honda price is simply too much!

You will enjoy it! I only ride sports bikes on the track now (unless i want to go somewhere and look cool.. haha)

Please can you tell use what they say about running in and your first impressions! I get mine on Saturday.

I am ready to order this, but I am going to give it a go without first. I was thinking about it the other day while riding and i rest my foot on it. So it depends how 'mechanical' the lever feels. If it is like a stick connected to a button I would rather be without.

Just watch out if you're ordering the foot shifter.. Many crash bars aren't compatible with it, and a lot of the fitment guidance is lacking.

I'm quite curious about what the owners manual says, too. In the SP owners manual it just says 'use it as you would normally', which was quite surprising because previous Blade manuals all gave a long list of what you should and shouldn't do.

Wheelies in 1st, forget it as the gearing is way too short.

2nd and sit back a bit and i think its possible ( seen on youtube)

As for the gear shift, i think it is mechanical as ultimately there is a gearbox in the bike as same as the manual version with a DCT added on. But i may be wrong.

I have been googling a lot about wheelies. Struggling to find people popping wheelies on a DCT. I am sure if you get some speed up and roll the throttle off to get some engine braking and then load it on with a silky smooth bounce on the rear it will come up.

If the running in process allows wheelies I will let you know on Saturday. I used to power wheelie lots until i learned to clutch it up, so hopefully it allows smilesmile:smile

Good stuff..

I think I'll hold off on foot shifter as my mate who has also ordered a bike told me to embrace the DCT and be one with the DCT.

With wheelies... I think in manual mode going into first the bike should be ok to wheelie off the throttle and also in 2nd with throttle control and sitting back on the bike. Sharp roll off then snap on it should come up. Obviously traction control off. This is all my theory anyway.

Back to running in... I don't believe lugging an engine is any good for running in so I want to put the bike in auto mode but in a sports mode so the bike revs (not redline or any where near) but doesn't lug.

I am going to choose a twisty route back to London. So I have to run up and down the gears and not just in top gear at a constant speed.

Lol...

I am sure some muscle memory grab for the clutch will occur from time to time.
