The Eurotunnel is 30 minutes away from me straight down the M20, one of the benefits of living in Kent. Onto the continent 2 hours or so after leaving the house. biggrin

The A44 from Aberystwyth is stunning!

Also if time allows then get on the B4518 between Llanidloes and Machynlleth, absolutely stunning bit of road!

I'm thinking of a 2.5 week euro jaunt in August on my lonesome as my friends are being a bit non-committal if you are interested?

I've just looked on Google, £30 to get to France and back return.

Question is, once you land at Calais, what way for a night and back?

hmm, maybe I should have made this trip three days. I'll see if I get a pass.

Could be interested in the outward leg of a Euro trip, would need to be July though.

It's definitely worth going out of your way for or having a late night heading home. On of my favourite roads and the scenery is brilliant as well.

Ahh that's a shame, July will be a bit soon for me money wise and sorting holiday with work. Maybe another time thumbup

I can confirm the top section of your route there is well worth doing! I stayed up in Ffestiniog for a week at the end of April. I Spent the entire week wishing I was on the bike and not in the car!
Especially that section from Machynlleth and Dolgellau

If you don't mind a couple of hours of motorway at each end you can easily make it to the Belgium/north Luxembourg ardennes, around Spa. I've got a weekender planned for exactly this, staying in Esch-sur-sure overnight. £30 eurotunnel, £10 camping, + fuel.

Or you could head down the D940 to Le Havre and northen Normandy, but not as nice roads.

I won't be camping. I want to travel as light as possible. Thanks for the tip.

OK so a solo trip up the middle of Wales and then down the through the Wye Valley arranged for this weekend. About 5-6 hours a day and hope to visit the Ponderosa on Sunday pm.
The Wye valley is a cracking bit of road, though you can stuck behind stuff in some places. Many of the roads around the Brecon Beacons are also well worth a visit. Hope the weather holds out for you.

In the Wye watch out for a copper dressed in fluorescent cycling attire driving an ancient cream coloured Merc 190. He may have passed away from stress by now as I've never seen anyone worked up in quite such a rage rofl

No issues with travelling solo. I'm off on a 5-6000 mile Euro trip in a few weeks. Got some places I want to see so figured what the hell and just decided to go do it.

Same here, off to Norway in July for 2 weeks of solo touring up to the Nordkapp and back.
It's nice to just be able to do what you want without a discussion over everything.

I do like touring in groups too, and it's good to have company in the evenings but I'm not too concerned about chatting to random strangers if I'm on my own.

I'm doing 3 weeks in Europe on my own. 25th of June till 16th of July.

Will be going to a festival and visiting family in Poland for few days. Easier to go on my own as I don't have to worry about pace, do whatever I feel like doing and getting someone to commit 3 weeks is a bit of an ask.

Rough plan:
- calais to baden-baden in one day (might be a bit optimistic)
- 2-3 days in black forest area
- austria for a festival
- dash through slovakia to poland
- 2-3 days visiting family
- back to austria via slovakia again
- grossglockner, stelvio, chamonix, route des grandes alpes, monaco

Thats a very rough plan and seeing I've never done more than 300 miles in a day it might be way to optimistic - going to Wales on bank holiday weekend to test all the gear out and see how I feel riding longer distances.

Will be camping along the way, got archies app and POI installed on the sat nav - prob won't book much, just wing it as I go along.

You're welcome to join in for any part if the dates suit you.

Bit late for you now but there are some great roads up in the Snowdonia national park, past Bala and Capel Celyn. Winding up the mountains and through dense forest, almost deserted.

Now I'm very tempted to see where I can end up...

What did you think to it?

I saw a couple of pics, looks like you did well with the weather!

Yes, totally lucked out with the weather. The first road out from Machynlleth to join the B4518 was superb, rolling twisties through green hills with drop offs either side. I'm going to arrange a longer trip later in the summer.
