Motorcycle Live
Discussion
These things were must go events in the distant past as where else would you see these bikes in advance?
Now it wall to wall on the internet. and all without anyone standing in the way.
Instead of having to pay fk tons to hire the place and all the associated costs cant they just hire some showground and put some tents up?
The flipping bike is going to be used outside after all. Were not looking at sofas.
You could have camping. Live music, gangs turning up to settle scores in front of terrified families etc.
Ok maybe without the last bit.

The first bike show i did was earls court ! I went last year but have given it a miss this year too expensive for what it is .
I remember going to the Earls Court show on my own in 1988. I would have just turned 16 and the highlight was meeting and speaking with the Late Great Phil Mellor. I still keep the signed photograph. vonhosen said:

Went to the Motorhome and Caravan show last month. It was several times the size of motorcycle show and we paid £9.99 to get in. There must have been multi millions of pounds worth of stock there all brought at great expense. My wife had sorted out the tickets and as we arrived I suddenly blurted out ..."have you bought parking as its a fortune of you havnt" ...:its in the price" she replied....I just havnt had the heart after that to go to motorcycle live and pay top dollar for an inferior product.
I'll happily pay twice as much to look at shiny bikes, rather than have to look at caravans.Triaguar said:

I went too, and on leaving the car park, the chap in the kiosk asked which show I'd been to. I said Motorhome and he waved me through, another answer and they wanted nearly twenty quid.Triaguar said:

Harley Davidson have now joined the Piaggio Group (Guzzi, Aprilia, Vespa etc) in not attending.
Still going for a blokes day out though!
That’s a nice easy decision then, as that’s a few of the manufacturers I’d really want to see. Still going for a blokes day out though!
I wasn’t all that bothered this year as I don’t need any new gear and bought a bike in the summer.

Watching with interest, I’m always disappointed when I do go, but always still have the urge to go lol
I'm same but my thinking is weather is typically bad so cant ride and its somewhere to go out and see all the bikes, kit and have a laugh Bengt Axel said:

Yep proper bothers me this that there is literally no interest from them but a big presence from other brands I've barely heard ofStill going for a blokes day out though!
The ever increasing cost for an ever decreasing show has meant I'm no longer interested. I've not seen bargains from any show in the last 10 years that have not also been available on line, and with an increasing number of mainstream manufacturers not attending I think the life expectancy of shows like this is extremely limited.
It was huge in the '80s when I used to ride to Birmingham in all sorts of foul weather and then ride home with the bike over-stuffed with the bargains I'd bought. many of which I didn't need and probably didn't want!

I went for a few hours on Saturday. It was alright I guess! Good to see most of the latest bikes in the flesh, although not many interested me. The clothing stands were still small in number. I was keeping an eye out for airbag suits but didn't see any. Overall, an expensive few hours, and I probably won't go next year. I'd rather they didn't have all the test ride/experience bumpf, and just made the tickets cheaper!

Can't say I've ever been to it. Is that the one in Birmingham?
I used to frequent the one in Media City but since that closed and the next nearest place wanted well over £100k to host it, they've stopped holding it. Shame, too. £17 to get in last time, a good few hours perusing bikes and tonnes of stalls, I think the only draw backs were a lack of seating if you wanted some food and poor phone signal. Bought a cheap bike hoody last time I was there and it's alright. Handy for knickknacks and tools that you never knew you needed.

Going on from the prices I have to agree to an extent
Parking being something like £17 now unless pre booked. Tickets at circa £30 with an 'admin fee'
I'm fortunate enough to know enough 'influencers' so get in and do a bit of social content. We go up in 1 car and split parking so circa £12 split 4 ways
Diesel to get there and back is about £30 which again split 4 ways. It shouldnt be an expensive day out - it should be a fun day with mates to enjoy bikes when weather stops the fun due to time of year
I did see some deals on clothing. Bought myself a few Astar tee's at 20 quid a pop. Recently bought a new X803 Gold Edition and first ride out realised there is a reason its a race type lid - way too noisy for road so thats now my 2024 track lid along with my Pista
After a lot of thinking decided to buy a Shoei GT-Air 2 with the Sena built in mesh. They GT Air 3 I couldnt justify the extra money. See some Spidi w/proof textiles half price - really good deal with the jacket at £149 but couldnt justify spending anymore with all the race bikes, track bike etc so will change next year
Liked seeing the old and new
Bonkers power with these. Would love to drag one of these at Santa Pod
The one Carwow & few YouTubers have been dragging
Giving myself ideas on a winter project for my race trailer
Problem being I have no idea how I can cut mdf or similar round the inside of the cone and then fix up with enough strength to hold a microwave
This gave me Tron movie vibes. 17.3kw prototype battery. Problem with these (ignoring sound) is the battery size, weight and size. Its the equivalent of an IBM computer from the 1980s or LED bulbs 10-15 years ago when in their infancy
I couldnt find any info on miles per kw but my wife owns a 500e which is about as efficient as they come in cars. Claims 5 miles per kw realistically with me driving its more like 2.6-3.5. Work on assumption the bike is a realistic 6-7 miles per kw I cant see these doing more than 105-120 miles. Thats not too far off a ICE bike but its charge time and convenience. I cant think of a single place I ride (biker cafe) that has chargers and then there's the time to charge which typically based on current bike charge speeds would be 2-3 hours
I wouldnt normally harp on about it but for anyone thats been to the bike show in the last 3 years you'll know how much EV presence there is. The numbers just dont add up for me right now not to mention these bikes weigh 1/4 of a tonne!
Anyways...back to things I like and can appreciate for at least the next 10 years or so. I am an aprilia guy but no presence at the show and Ducati drop this in which looked incredible. 2025 could see me switch sides
My memories of Benelli are a quirky italian brand having owned a Tornado 900. The chinese took the brand and have created a big range now but the below just screams Triumph 765
I quite liked this. Nice to see Yamaha doing something different
This 'prototype' looks production ready. For MX riders its common knowledge keeping a track open is hard with noise. For city indoor supercross or tracks where noise is a real issue I see sense in these
This made me laugh. Probably the biggest road legal pickup I've seen next to a mate who is 5ft 1in
And finished with a couple vintage bikes which for some reason I always seem drawn too

I said I wouldn't go but I am now!
Echoing other comments its bloody pricey to go now! £30 a ticket is a joke
As things would turn out though I've bought a ticket through a friend at a discounted rate, and now getting a ticket free so have one spare! D'oh!
If anyone wants a ticket for the same £20 I paid I'll happily send it through - I'm heading up tomorrow and looking forward mainly to getting some custom ear plugs (after I lost my last set) and hopefully grabbing a deal on a couple of tank bags

Funny you should mention that; we bought some custom ear plugs too (after I lost my current set (non custom))! Delivery hopefully before Christmas. PS…make sure you’ve cleaned your ears before you get there…and you have to ask for a lanyard too if you want one to try and not lose them again!Decided to give it a miss this year as the last few years it's just slowly but surely gone downhill. We actually fit 3 places in when we go to the show - NEC, Ducati Coventry (JHP) and Caffeine & Machine, that shows how little there is to see at the show for me.
However, we decided to go to the classic car show which was a week or so ago, so much bigger than the bike show by comparison and surprisingly quite a few bikes to pour over. It was a refreshing change and didn't have to pay for parking also.
