My partners dad has just stopped off at a bike shop on his travels and spotted a nice 56plate SV650S with 50 miles on the clock for a reasonable price.

Opinions please
I had one up until Saturday, they're not bad, what do you mean by "reasonable price"?

Registered November 06 so on a 56plate.....has 50 miles on the clock with suzuki warranty in place, previous owner was the daughter of the owner of the place and it sounds like she has never used it.

The price is £3800, which i was assured by my partners dad is a good price for the better than showroom condition, miles, etc?

I'm unsure whether this is one of the new SV's that come with the lower fairing and seat cowl for free or whether they have been bought as optional extras.

will find out when i pop into the shop on the way home to look at it.

I think the RRP is £4600 on the S model, the lowers are around £400, but since I bought mine 2nd hand I'm not sure how much they can be bargained down. On the face of it, that price seems reasonable? But I have seen a few K6 models at pretty cheap prices, best to look around to find some to compare with I'd say.

Its looking like i will most likely go for this SV650's its in stunning condition, has most extras, rear hugger, scotoiler etc and the 50 miles + 56 plate is really pulling me in.

An ideal first bike really, I can play with it, learn to ride properly instead of how to pass a test, change a few bits and bobs then move on.

Hi,

I've got an SV650 Sport with full fairing etc as a first bike.

I got mine from George Whites last Nov for £4k.

Its a great bike and plenty fast enough for me to start with. Its dead easy to ride and has plent of tourque which is better than having to wring a bikes kneck to get anywhere quickly.

I also thought about buying a sports 600 as a first bike but decided I should get something a bit easier to ride so I could learn the craft of riding properly without scaring myself sh!tless.

I will probably move up to a sports 600 in a year of so. Given the current crop of 600, I would choose a Triumph Daytona 675 as its a bit different to the regular Jap bikes.

Given its on at £3800 you could always chance your arm at £3500 and see what happens !

Best of luck.

Congratulations on passing your test!
An SV650S is a brilliant first bike. I started out on one and found it very easy to ride and get along with.
I found it handled really well and inspired confidence.
I really liked the characteristics of the V twin and since selling my SV have had two other twins and recently moved onto a triple.
Good luck,
Davie.

NOW YR TALKIN' LOL

got my sv650s ('99 T plate) over a month ago and cant fault it as a first bike. its sporty and boring all at the same time!!!

i do get thrashed in a straight line by my mate on his kwak 636 but if i get out in front i can slaughter him on the corners.

on the other hand i took my mrs out on the back and she found it comfy enough to ride round for half a day.

the engine is great through town or on b-roads; just slip it in 3rd or 4th and just twist and go..

also i love the size of it, its like a tall 400!! and still fits my 6'1" streak of wee frame!

my only gripe is that the suspension is just bog basic (no damping at all and very limited preload on the shock only)and has come to the end of its life so another £few hundred on top of what i bought it for is required but if you buy new or k2 onwards i should imagine you'd be ok.

other than that i highly recommend an svs as a first bike to anyone...
