Going to look at the Daytona 675 and R6 as well but the CBR is most of interest at the moment.

Am going through same thoughts, down sizing from cbr100rr to a 600. Test rode the new cbr600rr today to see if I could live without the torque....

That bike is an absolute hoon. You have to ride it like you stole it to make progress though, but wind it up and it is plenty fast (2nd gear goes past 100) but compared to the 'blade it is tiny (felt like cbr125) but sooo light and flickable, and fast enough to keep you busy but happy to have the throttle wide open on corner exits. I think I'm sold on the down sizing.

Oh, hello everybody, I'm new here. Nice to meet you all.

Next bike? Looking at the pattern of your history, you're due another R1?!

Thought about it but I can't make my mind up. Thinking it looks too much like the one I have now... Get a bit of stick from the Biker for only riding Yamaha's and driving Ford's but I'm working my way up to Rossi's M1 and a GT40.hehe

Hi there.... Welcome to the biker section of PH...

Looking forward to the ride tomorrow! I do love a flickable bike so guess I'm going to love it!

If you really want light weight and flickability, I was totally blown away riding Hobo's stock R6 on crappy Dunlop Qualifiers, it felt like a bloody scalpel! You must try one before ordering your Honda (seems like you want people to concur with your decision).

How much you want for your GSXR?

I think in all honesty its more down to which of the 600's you prefer the look/feel of, as 99% of people will never be as good as the bike anyway.

When the latest R6 came out it got rave reviews along the lines of how much it had moved things forward. However 12 months later alledgedly the new CBR600 has done the same again.

I'd probably but the newest model out there for this reason, but believe me, it doesn't make the older ones bad.

On the road you'll no doubt miss the torque/power of the 1000, however on track you'll have an absolute blast thrashing the b@llocks out of a 600 (I don't ride on the road, so this isn't an issue).
Its also fun watching the 1000's storm past you on a straight, only to outbrake them into the next corner, or go around the outside of them, etc.

I keep having thoughts of a 1000, but every time I go on track I just can't get over how much fun the R6 is. Can't wait for next weeks outing with the new gearing, brakes & stuff.

What's that they say about it being better/more fun to ride a slower bike fast than a faster bike slow? I guess I'm just a lazy road rider and love being able to twist the throttle on the litre bike and get instant grunt rather than having to cane it to make good progress. I see the light and flickable argument though . . . hell, get one of each!!

This is the thing, there's only so much fun to be had with the straight line acceleration. I want the testride more because I don't believe the GSXR K6 feels like a 600 in the way the mags say it does. The weight of the current crop of 600's feels very much lighter than my bike (pushing around) so hope this afternoon will put things right for me. Also, the 1000 builds speed without trying - I just think it's too much for the public road...

I wanted to ask, how do you pay for your track time - do you have some sort of season pass? Must get expensive as, if I didn't ride on the road, I'd want to be on the track all the time!

No season pass, just book as & when.

On average, trackdays are £100 each. Insurance last year cost £1200, so not having to pay for this equates to 12 days.

I'll be happy if I do 25 days this year.

Focused Events do operate a 'GP CLUB'. Something like every 10 tracks days you do with them you get a free one.

Turned up at the dealers (CJ Ball, Norwich) and took the CBR600RR for a quick cruise. First thing you notice is the bike feels smaller but the seat height feels higher up than the K6 1000. Turning is much easier at low speed – almost like a bicycle so would recommend one for people taking their tests as you could turn around in circles all day long! So, out on the road I went... in 40mph limits the bike feels seriously flat below 5K RPM which I expected so no big shocks there. Taking the revs a little higher produced some decent acceleration followed by a rush as the revs reached their limit though it’s clear this is in a different league to my GSXR which is much, much faster in a straight line but then I never expected it to be even close so, again, no shocks. Now for some twists and turns! The bike is effortless to turn – seriously felt like it actually tipped into the corners a little too fast at first– just takes a bit of time to get used to things. On tighter corners, the CBR6 RR is great because it turns so quick and on sweepers it’s fantastic at holding a line because of the low weight and brilliant chasis. But... it’s a testament to the 1000 that it’s not so far behind – yes, the CBR is quicker to turn and yes it’s almost certainly capable of higher corner speeds but the 1000 doesn’t feel so far behind in capability – I didn’t think “Wow, this is so much better”. The brakes on the CBR have more feel and more bite than the GSXR – something I could perhaps do with updating. The forks are also stiffer on the CBR with not so much front end dip as the GSXR under hard braking even though my bike is set up on the stiffer side. I guess my conclusion is that the CBR6 is sharper than the K6 1000 but it’s not way, way better. It’s also true that the CBR is probably much easier to ride because it turns with little effort so you don’t need to muscle it around as much as the 1000. I also much prefer the riding position of my bike and of course the engine – I would miss the torque and the rush of acceleration which occurs no matter what gear you’re in. I like the fact I can leave my bike in any gear on the road and accelerate – a big plus when there’s lots of traffic around as it means you not constantly changing up and down the gears. Speaking of gears, the CBR is pretty damn good in this department – much more positive select than the GSXR but where the heck is the gear position on the dash? It may seem a simple thing, but I like knowing what gear I’m in on the bike. The other big test would be the track – I’ve no doubt the CBR would be brilliant but I very much doubt the dealer would like me taking their bike for the day!

Also gutted there’s no REPSOL colour scheme on the 600. I’m going to keep the GSXR until a better thou appears on the market – could be a while then... Oh yeah, it needs another end can as the stock sound is a little er... gay (for want of a better word!)...

Would like a 600 for the track and 1000 for the road!

That looks good doesn't it! Love the colours and the underseat exhaust - it's not s'posed to be as good as the K6 GSXR 1000 though?

suspension wise and in terms of handling the Fireblade felt like a 600 to me, just with alot more power, im test riding the CBR600RR tomorrow so i will do a write up/compare to the Fireblade too.

I would.

The K7 750 feels absolutely identical to the K7 600 when you're chucking it around corners, with the subtle difference that it'll pull like a train on the corner exit without that worry of highsiding you get on the 1000. You still have to rag the arse off it in the same way you do the 600, you'll just be moving a bit/lot faster when you're doing it.
