Wow, I am impressed, seem to bread them tough on Pistonheads biggrin.

My main concerns in winter are grip with the increased chance of ice in the bends and salt. My bike is only a couple months old and I do not want it eaten away to nothing. Oh ok and honestly I do not like the cold paperbag. I will have to invest in some proper insulated clothing. *goes away to search for textile armoured kit*.

As per Y2Blade how many people have second winter hacks? Something I am considering to protect the GSXR... scratchchin.

I hear what you're saying. However, I've thought I'd like a pice of poo to commute on and keep the P&J for the weeekends... but i just enjoy riding it too much, and couldn't jump on a pile of poo, knowing he was in the shed dying to be let out. Feck it, if it corrodes, it corrodes...I'll get another one.
No kids and no car, so it's justified I guess.

You're right though. If you have all the right gear, the cold isn't a problem. Let me know if you find some goos waterproof textiles...I'm on the market for some meself.

Cheers.

Heated jacket liner for the win wink

Keep the core temperature up and the body won't pull blood from the extremities i.e fingers / toes!

After picking up my new GSX-R 1000 K7 at the weekend..... With just 60 miles on the clock the bike was rolled out of the garage at 6am this morning for a 55 mile commute. At this time it was about 2 degrees in Shropshire but, excited to be running in the new toy, I thought i'd be OK with just adding my thin glove liners for the trip!

How wrong was I!!!!!!!!!!! After 20 miles my hands were frozen solid and i was left to commute the last leg of my trip (J10A south on the M6) through solid traffic with no feeling at all.

I must admit, i flicked the bike into 'Mode C' which softens the power and throttle response and it was really impressive.... smoother than my old 636R Ninja!

Looking forward to the trip home mind you! bounce

I bought one from Aerostich. They are a US firm so you can get full advantage of the weak dollar. Just remember that you'll probably be stung for import duty (about 22% IIRC)

Mine is a Widder www.widder.com the UK distributor Riderhouse has gone out of business unfortunately... Other recommended names are Klan and Gerbing.

£120 or thereabouts and you won't look back - no need to waste money on more expensive 'thermal' clothing either smile

Seems to be an ebay shop for Widder here:

I've no experience of the seller though.

It'll not be long before mines away till March next as I suffer from a condition called softshiteus.

It was really cold this morning 4 degrees, with the frost warning being displayed on the cars dash, which is the norm around here from now till April ish. Can't say I miss the salty taste of snot running from your nose too your lips, along with the numb fingers and toes.

I did it for years when I was younger, and as keen as mustard, but now prefer listing to a favourite CD while smoking a cigarette, and the heater on full. I would like to add that it didn't bother me at the time as I used to use the bike for everything, but as an old fart I reserve the right to use the car in winter.

I shall give a wry smile to all the hardy Bikers, who pass me as I'm stuck in traffic on those cold, damp Autumn/winter days and nights. When I did it all those years ago, it was with jeans work boots and a leather jacket, none of this thermal jacket, heated grips Carry on.

I'm still wearing the same gear as I've been using all summer. I have had the heated grips on, and the heated seat smile Lovely first thing in the morning, crisp clear air, screen up, visor open, warm bum....

When it gets properly cold the liner goes in my textile trousers, and I have a Klan heated fleece too. I very rarely have to resort to winter gloves, even if it's snowing a bit.

This winter will be my first winter on the bike, having chickened out last year! I'm desperate to get back on a bike having been off for 2 weeks, I've just bought one and my first ride will be today though (just taking it out for a spin - other things are stopping me commuting on it!).

I need to take note of the stuff used to keep warm, I remember it was freezing when I was riding around in March 2006, just before my test - don't think I want to do that again...

Yep, definelty chillier this morning, also the bloody sun is low coming into the London on the M4 so I was being blinded! Lovely!!!

Not resorted to the heating yet mind you... still in shorts and T-shirt with the door open at home, heating is not til November / December!
What are you riding? I do the same route and the sun drives me nuts morning and evening. Resorted to buying a Caeberg lid with an integral visor as i got so fed up with putting a dark one on my Arai and removing it every day.

I'll be sure to stick a leg out for you wink I'm on a black '07 Tiger and join at J8/9 smile

hehe Good God no, I hope other people don't see me that way. I'm just your average soft shite. Clean the car, cut the grass, go to work and have a family, I'm just a bit taller than average 6ft 4".

I suppose the name "Biker's Nemesis" doesn't help. I chose that name as a wind up as a very good friend of mine "The Biker" is a member of this site, Mark is his name, and he owns a 1098 Ducati, one of the reasons I have a pop at Ducati's too as I know he reads my posts while he's at work.

I think a lot of people don't get my sense of humour. (dry)tongue out

John.
