My father has had a ZX9r F2 since new in 2002. He adores the bike, extremely quick, very comfortable, He never goes near the redline uses all low & mid range but still flies. He can sit on the bike for hours much more than I ever could on my GSXR or even my blade.

He keeps looking for a new bike but can never find anything to meet his requirements like the ZX9 does.

wot low and mid range ? below 7grand there shite if you in 6th at 60 mph you have to change down 4 gears to get it going you have plan 3 weeks in advance before you dare pass anything !

i used to ride my zx9 from banbury to london on a roads and m40, great on the m40 but the a roads was a nightmare must have change gear 500 times

if you want low n mid range try a bandit 12 or gsx 14 ok its not a plastice bike but so wot
and if your dad dont rev his zx9 as you say he should try one of these bikes

i find that hard to believe myself. ive not ridden one but i could happily overtake & keep up a good average on a RF600 (with an extra tooth at the front) and those were slammed for a guttless bottom end too. yes it wont do warp speed in 6ft, so just look further up the road.

as for gsx1400 cloud9 you can pass acclerating cars from about 20mph in 6th. i love mine

Depends what your used to and what warp factor you want to go. I had to scream my old GSXR600 to get past him. I would say 7k is mid range.....

I can't believe how cheap the TLS is. Tatty examples from £1200 and 2K gets a very good bike.
You can thank the shite suspension, handling which can vary from brilliant to "has it got a puncture" on the same corner on the same day, dodgy ECU's(latter models have modified units and make less BHP than the earlier bikes, the awful bodged steering damper and a fair few cases of cracked frames around both the head stock on that rotary damper for that...buy carefully my man...Apart from noise, low down grunt and budget constraints I cant see why anyone would have a TL-S over a ZX9.

As for a zzr1100 being better than a ZX9, well for a high speed cruising I would say maybe Yes but in every other respect a ZX9 is far superior and ive never heard anyone say any different...a case of rose tinted glasses maybe?

I've said this a couple of times on here.I had a 99 Busa,an SP1,R1,ZX12R,new GSXR600 and i've had the TL1000r way longer than all of them!Is there something wrong with me?rolleyesI find the fact a bike wants to go straight on at bends appealing in it's own little way.

I think we get the picture mate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you think they are crap fine, I happen to love mine and know of lots of others that do too. As for a ZZR1100 in comparison, well no thanks. I think everyone has now read your opinion on the ZX9 so keep reiterating how crap they are isn't really useful is it? As i say i love mine but dont care if anyone else does or not, if i didn't like it i'd get something else.

Just wonder... what model/year ZX9 did you have? early ZX9's were overweight and crap according to the press, they still kept that view when the final ZX9's were built despite losing many kilo's and increase in BHP.

well i owned a C model ZX9r from new for 3 years and now own a well modded TLR.
To be honest both the TL and the ZX are great bikes..

My zx9 had a very free flowing Race system (the headers are pretty restrictive) and a dynojet kit and went like the clappers. They are definitely stronger from 7k to the redline but it was no slouch from 5k. If you do alot of riding you cant go far wrong and can still keep up with most new stuff on the road (a genuine 170+ mph top speed)

The TL is a bit more of a choice of the heart. with an M4 exhaust system it sounds like thunder and has huge torque (mine has high comp pistons and head work etc) so pulls very hard.
The speed is more deceptive tho due to the torque and the low engine note.
Its more or a handfull on a wet day when it wants to spin the rear up and the TLR is not exactly comfortable. But for whatever reason i just love it.

If you compare it to cars i would say the ZX9 is a Porsche 911 and the TL is a TVR. Both great but in completely different ways..

Id ride both a good way and make up your mind from there.

sounds like the sort of thing i'd call gutless. im not a revvy rider (or driver for that matter) so i tend to stay under 6-7k most of the time.
as you say its all down to how you want to use the bike.

i thought the TL's handling problems were due to the riders be lightweight anybody over 13 stone plus seemed ok worth bearing in mind, also the disc suspension was a bit iffy but both bike are very different v twin, 4 banger
they have different ways to put the power down try both but i konw the V TWIN sound is to die for

its why i love my old bonnie too, only 49bhp but fully loaded with luggage for a camping trip it'll climb welsh hills from about 20-25mph in top.

Well before you give the ol ZX-9 a good kickin' i would still ride one of each.
One thing the '9 is renowned for is a storming engine by the bike mags and with a little fettling can be even better..

For me a nice second hand zx-9 with £1000 spent on suspention/brakes would make a very nice bike, easily capable for running with much more modern bikes raod or track but would not be adverse to a bit of touring.

I dont like the TLS personally, would rather have a VTR or Aprilia myself.

The SV650 with a few mods actually make great bikes, sound good too with some nice pipes.

For me i would probably prefer a twin to a IL4, i have a zx10r right now but will probably move back to a v2 in the near future. (Hopefully a white 848 biggrin )
