All that matter is that you find something you like... doesn't matter what the capacity is. If you like a bike (like I do with my blade) keep it until it falls to bits and if you don't like a bike move it on. Simple really, all this stuff about A is better than B is nonsense, it all just comes down to personal taste. I don't care if I don't ride my bike to its limits and I don't care if someone else believes that it's a stupid bike to have because of that. I don't care if someone comes past me on a puch maxi, I love my bike and that's all that matters to me.

hehe

The only things that make me want to move mine on is that bd recalcitrant gearbox that is my soulmate in that some days it wakes up feeling fine and it's all snickety snick and others it's as grumpy as fk and it's all crashes and bangs. I'll treat the old dear to a full on service when this contract finishes and she'll love me again smile

sod it im going to keep the 600RR because i do really like it, im going to add another bike to join it in the garage soon though, in the form of either a 748 or an early R1.

Add one of the best and most under-rated sports bikes of all time.
The Ducati 749R.
The looks aren't quite as good as the older model, but the engine is a gem and the bike is so much fun to ride and sounds orgasmic as it surges up to 11,000 rpm.

"YOU really like it" thats what it's all about

the addition of an early R1 sounds like a superb idea

We're spoilt for choice really.
Anything from a classic 6-pot CBX to a wild stroker from way back would be a good 2nd bike.
I have just picked up a Honda CX650 Turbo for £3000.
Bit of an ugly swine, but an extremely rare and usefully fast (for 1984) bike.

It's a 1984 model. It'll still do 135 mph, not bad for a pushrod twin from 25 years back!

I always fancied a CX650 Turbo but never got around to trying one. If you feel that you'd like another opinion on the bike then I'm happy to give up my time to let you know what I think! wink

Hi, Yes it will be slower than a litre bike. But who can ride a litre bike to its full potential on our roads..... No one. Although alot pretend they can!

You will have much more fun on a 600 with lower running costs.

ive ridden a fair few later 1000s and as strange as it may sound none of them felt as quick as the first generation R1 even though they were actually quicker, i think it may just be the power delivery on them but the ones ive ridden have given a punch so sharp it can leave you a little short of breath at times, the more modern FI bikes while un denyably quicker are just so smooth you dont feel like they are, plus an early R1 can be picked up for very reasonable money now, still looks good too especially in the red/white with the Japanese style YZF writing down the sides.

i know someone who recently got a T reg one-ok not quite the first model but close enough wink for £1900, it had no MOT and needed tyres, he put them on and it sailed through the MOT, he was quite lucky though i supose.

The 600 is a fast bike without a doubt but a litre bike gives you that thrill of power everywhere - lots of torque, amazing acceleration etc. The 600 though provides thrills in a different way - corner speeds is higher, less risk of a high side and you can thrash it.. But for me, I wouldn't change to a 600 on the road - my R1 (2007) is a good mix of cornering and acceleration.. I love the feeling of the power and the ease of blasting away traffic.. On the track though it would be 600 every time..

I had one of the carb model R1's a few years ago, and now have an injection model. The newer ones are more powerful, but the delivery is different, they're smoother, don't have the same punch as the older carb'd models. The old ones just feel that little bit more exciting to ride.

As for the 600's on the road, I sometimes wish I still had my R6, it was much more involving to ride, had to actually work the thing. Not that I could get anywhere near the limit of a 600 let alone a 1000.
