absolutely.. only difference i can see is these scooters seem to be all 'Auto' and so the engine note is really annoying as it drifts around the revs.

Atleast our 2-strokes wailed through the gears.. (thats my excuse anyway)

was a bit late for the fs1e.. i had DT50 (ish) my mates had AR50's, MTX50's AE80, TS50 and an AE50 i think... though barring the AE80 and TS none were the remotest bit standard..

Actually i have to confess i bought my DT50 new from what was Warburtons in Essex and within 2 months the first bigbore kit, gianelli/dep sport pipes and racing reeds +baby K&N had been fitted..

I spent a fortune on tuning bits etc and the funny thing was the only thing i didn't spend money on was replacement drum shoes on the front or a rear tyre which was bald as a coot.. so guess i was just as bad.. I certainly thought i was invincible at the time i think.

Ahhh memories.. hehe

Maybe someone can shed some light on this? When these chavs on mopeds set off from the lights, why do they rev it multiple times rather than just one smooth movement. Kind of like this...warp warp warp warp, as opposed to wwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrpppppp? Is it to make it sound like a geared bike? I dont know, although my bike is geared, and I dont do it? It makes me smile when you can see their skinny wrists flicking the throttle.

Also, whats these sports footpegs that are on the go. So they can take their feet of the floor of the bike and put them onto some footpegs further back, giving it some kind of sportsbiker look.

Does anyone else follow me here.....

I was 16 once and had a FS1E, 65cc big bore kit, and it used to do 60mph, mostly everywhere, between blow ups, Its all part of being 16, i'm sure most of the lifetime motorcyclists will agree.

Constant revving ? maybe because they watch BSB on the box or to catch everyones attention now they do'nt have a push bike ?
The classic geared bikes of 50cc seem thin on the ground these days, the trend is automatics and I do'nt think they have much choice, I looked at some mint FS1E's at a classic bike show a few months ago priced at £1200 each so you wont see them on any of those, but if you do tell them you'll do them a swop for a brand new Chinese auto!

There are a few Geared 50's about. Sherco do a "Supermoto" and Trail Ped. Somebody imports the Derbi. The Malaguti Drakon is quite a good looker. You do have to look around a bit tho.

I had an Aprilia Habana Custom (now renamed Mojito custom I believe) wanted a Vespa or Piaggio but the bloke in the bike shop refused to sell a geared scooter to a girl, to be honest if I'd had the option to buy from anywhere else I would have the bloke was an utter tosser, he also refused to derestrict it for me... I was twenty bloody three... so I took it up the road to the next dealer who did it instead... dealership went bust not long after, couldn't have happened to a nicer man!

I have a scooter (125 cc tho) as well as my YZF and you know what, I don't suddenly lose my ability to do lifesavers or drive sensibly when I get on the scooter having ridden the YZF !

Not all scooter riders are bad, usually only the 16 year olds with peds! Most 125cc+ scooters / without L-Plates are fine IME.

Someone, somewhere, worked out that with CVT transmissions if you revved it constantly in that manner that it actually helped you gain more speed. Or something along those lines. Needless to say you look a right tw@t doing it.

I have a 200cc Gilera Scooter, thankfully its four stroke and got some gumption to it so I can treat it like a standard auto, twist, reach desired speed, throttle back and cruise... (I have a proper bike too btw, but thats for fun runs and touring, not commuting boredom).
