The only place that bike will be any real amount quicker than a 2009 KawasuzybladeR1 is on the racetrack.

In which case, £29K would buy me a faster and better handling track bike.
No lights and other road requirements, less weight, designed for the track from the off.

I stand by my previous comments - pissing money up the wall looks more appealing.

Fair play to someone who wants to modify, to such a degree---assuming they can put that sort of money to it---but as a used buy, i'd put the value of that bike right now at £18K.

put some racing fairings on it and you have one of the quicker trackbikes. Added 40HP and got rid of 25/30kg's of weight. Other fairings without the light and you save some more.

It is a trackbike, but kept road legal with 2 light units. No mirrors, no blinkings lights, etc.

If you have the money to spend on a bike, why not. There are 1000's of people who buy and old stty car and put 1000's and 1000's of pounds in them.

It's a hobby, it's fun smile

Absolutely. Personal choice.
But you have to accept that most people will think it's waste of almost thirty grand. Especially as a road bike.

If i wanted some really serious track action, i'd buy myself either a 90 bhp/100kgs ex-250 GP bike or a 170 bhp/140 kgs ex-500 GP bike!

I'd buy an RC30 and smile all the way to the shops :-)

I can't believe how long ago i had my RC30. Even now, it would seem special.

I understands people oppinion, and after reading the sentence again i noticed i wass wrong, excuse me smile

The guy is a good friend of mine, i really like (love) the bike, but i also would think twice about 50 grand into a bike. He did it once, propably won't do it again, especially now he is building a house. But now he did and he loves it. Bike drives absolutly great. More then 1/2 throtle in first 4 gears means your frontwheel will come up on power. ( it can be full throttle but you have to learn it, put your fear aside wink )

For track use, an 250cc ex gp bike would be great, would be the best learner bike as well and have more fun with keeping the revs up, braking as minimal as you can.

If we look at it that way, the best road bike wouldn't even be a 1000cc. The torque is awesome but for reasonable speed fun......

That GSXR is obviously very special, but few will want to pay £30K for it, at least, imo.

You're absolutely right about the 250 GP bikes.
In 2007, i was lucky enough to get an hour or so aboard a Honda 250, which did GPs in 2005.
Even though it was a bit behind the latest 250 racers, in terms of power delivery and chassis ability, it's circa 90 bhp and feather weight meant that even a not-that-fast rider, like myself could brake later and carry more corner speed than i ever dreamed possible.
For the first few laps i cursed myself for braking too early and too hard, such was the ability of the bike to corner and such was the lightning-quick ability to change direction.
The motor was pretty peaky, but still had more mid-range than an engine producing 360 bhp per litre, naturally aspirated, ever has a right to!

The difference is that a Ducati does 25.000 euro's over here, a 1098 S version. That's only 10k euro's less then this bike. And a lott different then the Ducati.

Must be awesome to drive on a 250 compettion bike.

This bike gives a strange feeling as well, you expect a corner coming up, but the moment you think you are closer to the corner then you tought you would have, and when you hit the brakes you are braking harder then you expected.

The engine is totally different, but comparing to the old 250 , the driver must spend time on it and learn to drive it, and appreciate it smile

I am the first to admit that the Honda 250 racer was way too good for me. No way was i ever going to find it's limits.
I bottled out fairly early in proceedings!
But i was still passing GSXR600s and R6s, etc. for fun, especially on the brakes and through the tighter turns.
On the right track that bike has been clocked at 160 mph, pretty amazing for it's tiny 249cc!

Capo, i'm not sure if the 1098S comparison was a general one, or because it's the bike i ride, but that Suzuki is nigh-on £30,000 and i paid £13,445 for my bike.

I wouldn't want to be on it if it nipped up doing that speed.

It pays to use very good oil, i think!

Gotta go now, but one other brilliant feature of that bike, was the gearing.
It had a 70 mph first cog, (so very slow from a standing start), but the next 5 were as tightly stacked as a nest of ants.

absolutley no intention to use you or your bike, was general. Because the Ducati 1098s is one of the more exspensive bikes over here. ( besides the special versions like the R or special MV agusta's)

Didn't know about the duc, nice bike! I traded my k5 suzuki 1000 for a 1000rr 2007 blade. Not as quick but easer for high corner speeds, less nervous. (suspension adjusted to my weight and driving style on both)

The 2007 'blade has a lovely engine, yep.
