Who's had the most extreme first bike?
Discussion
A 1981 Yamaha RD250LC!
It was brand new, on L plates, picked it up 5 days after my 17th birthday. I had a full licence 3 weeks later & was gutted I didn't have the 350. I've had CBX's ZXR's CBR's & blade's, a GSXR1000, & an R1 since then & the only thing that has bettered it for that 'knowing it's special' feeling was a 94 916S in 95!
All a bit different to the Speed Triple I potter about on now.

A sunbeam Champ. Red and yellow, with one brake, solid tyres, ape hangers and a banana saddle.
Oh, you mean motorbike?
My first bike was a Vespa 125 Primavera ET3, and if we're talking extreme, then I win on the grounds of extreme unreliability. Ridden every day it went through 2 clutches a year, almost a complete set of cables every year, I managed to get to 60mph on it twice and on both occasions needed to strip and rebuild the engine afterwards as the oil seals failed. Every few weeks I would have to rebuild the carb as the vibration would shake it to bits. I loved that bike and still have it. I spent thousands on trying to get the 5.6 bhp up to, ooh probably about 10-12bhp now maybe. And then 4 years ago I had to push it home just once too often, bought a brand new Honda CBR125R and have never ridden the Vespa since.

First bike was in 1972 and I was 14 it was an AJS Scrambler for field use only. First road bike was in 1977 it was a 1976 Kawasaki Z1000 A2 !
It was "lively" to say the least. Dunstall mega exhausts, Avon Roadrunners, cardboard brakes, spaghetti frame and 140 MPH potential, what a combo for a 19yr old.
Still riding now at 50 so not all bad.

Was that the one which pre-dated the Hustler, then the GT250 Ram Air?
Super Six was just an alternative name to the Hustler, but the same bike. Styling was a little 'odd' with big chrome side panels on the tank.

The smell of Gunk always whips me back some 30+ years, to my nostalgic follies and f**kups with that very first motorcycle.

When I passed my test a few years ago I borrowed a mates bike for a several weeks until I managed to sort myself out.
It was a tuned GSXR1100 engine in a sponden race frame, Street Fightered to the max.
Many years on I wish I would have bought it when he decided to sell it.
It was very unique! and brilliant fun!
