I generally tilt my head to the right for oncoming bikes.

If I overtake another bike I usually lift my left had fingers without actually letting go of the bar - if you see what I mean.

It's the bikers who stick their legs out who make me laugh, it looks like they're doing a piss.

For a change I got what appeared to be a few nods on my L plated 125 today. Then I arrived at work and discovered my numberplate, and L plate appear to have gone awol. frown

I nod,and people nod back at me, sometimes also get the oh its a girl on a bike stare, followed by a nod.

Agree the sports bike crowd prob do more nodding, but have had an old boy on a Harley lift his hand up and wave "fook that, my hands stay on the bars"

I think its a lovely gesture and sure it makes us all proud to be bikers.

I nod at most with a tilt of the head to the right.

However, do you strike up conversation at traffic lights? Had a few people try it with me, but with the earplugs and exhaust rumbling, I just nod randomly and shout stuff until the lights change.

I do a ‘left hand off the bar’ wave in most cases.

I do the nod to the right myself, but will do the left hand wave if there is a group of bikers. The constant nodding was doing my neck in smile

For nodding I do a 'tilting of the head to the right'

If overtaking I'll lift my left hand a little as I pass...which probably no one can see hehe

If there's someone behind me that obviously wants to go faster, I'll stick my right foot out a bit to indicate that I'm aware of his (probable) intentions...I think this is a universal 'pass me' sign.

im still too busy trying to stay on my bike to nod, not likely to get a reply with L plate and a 125cc tho anyway hehe
Was still on a 125 only last month and get no more or less nods than now, a bikes a bike mate so I always nod to L plates as it made me grin and spurred me on when I got one.
depends what the L plate is on, tracksuited motocross helmet wearing ped riders do not get nods. but learners who genuinely like bikes get them.

Nod to the right in most cases and left hand wave if its a group... When I was up in Scotland the other day I received a full on salute....oh and going up the M1 a few weeks ago when I was riding a 1200GS there was another guy coming the other way again on a 1200GS...he stood up on the bike and gave me a standing nod...I forgot to nod back I was a bit taken aback by his keeness

yes
Last week had a nice 'cross town' chat with a bloke on a lovely old Honda 500 in mint condition, a sort of conversation by installments - we'd swap a few comments, lights go green, bimble off, stop at the next red, take up where we left off! hehe

So presumably there's a lot of folk out there who think you're a bit silly

hehe

ETA I think my nod's the 'Big Naked' version! I like nodding to other bikers - makes you feel part of the gang! I've even been known to nod to sc**ter riders occasionally...

Everyone else gets the tilt to one side head nod. I also nod at bikes when on the Job bike, that gets a few reactions. I can almost read their minds…” Surly that officer did not just nod…Did he ?? “
I always wave to plod on bikes (assuming they're not blue lightling). Sometimes seems to catch them out and I've seen some "did he just wave at me?" looks.

I'm the same, although I've given up in central London as no one reciprocates. Mines a 45 degree head bang normally in a nonchalant manner. (Naked Bike rider)

Yeah one bloke was commenting on the colour of my bike and I responded by telling him where I had been riding that day.

Must have left feeling very confused.

I've found this so funny in the week I've been riding. It's like a secret society handshake, brilliant.

Someone on a busa gave me a full on salute while I was in the scoob... I'd just moved over and I guess he'd seen the 'think bike' sticker hehe

Normally tilt head to the right. Noticed that fewer sports bike riders acknowledge me on the triumph than they did on the blade which is odd.

I wave to other mondeo drivers very enthusiastically when out in the family car.
