Yep. Same as people who live in town centres then complain that pubs are too loud. I live about half a mile as crow flies over some fields from the main dual carriageway into North Wales and all summer it's a racetrack...laying in bed of a night easily hear every 14krpm gear change. Life is one big comprise and I've got used to it, prefer that over living next to a school or local shop full of morons trying to park.
You sound like the most sensible chap on here

People who live in the Countryside do tend to own it. Either small bits, or large bits. The one who own large bits are called Farmers. But there is very, very little land in the Uk without an owner

It is happening in Somerset (Cheddar) and the New Forest as well that I know about....all areas that can inflict restrictions via bye-laws....well done numb-nuts...you are alienating those of us that would normally let it pass because of the extreme increase in numbers + noise. YOUR lack of self control (many of you) really will disarm the "Let it be" people who live next to the really anti-traffic ones who also live here (like everywhere).

Gov already involved.
https://motorcycleminds.org/2018/08/15/road-closur...

The thing is chaps, many EU countries also have ---No modification from "as manufactured"--- laws regarding all types of transport. THAT is what they will use to control Bikes & Cars....so your strange habits (and the "Evo/Dustbin" exhaust types and Mr Ford Fiesta Farty-pants) will screw it for ALL of us.

Really, use your brains.

My folks live in the new forest and I read their paper alot. There isn't any talk of banning bikes from here. I'm calling that out as st.

That's because we do own it !

Some bikers are mildly annoying but they are soon past

When I'm driving around the biggest issue is all the cyclists / joggers / horse riders who seem to think country roads are a recreational area not a transport system, it really wouldn't surprise me to find some camping / having a picnic in the middle of the road

The trouble is the really annoying ones are on Harley's, and they are slower, and make the most noise, an unpleasant unrefined noise which would be better on a building site powering some air tools biggrin

As for road traffic, which is what cyclists, horse riders who seem to think the roads are there to use.....as roads, well, they are. Obviously they have to deal with all the inconsiderate asshats who cannot cope with them, but, such is life. As are rubbish bikes and rubbish bikes that make an even more rubbish noise.

The chap over the road has a vintage bike with a megaphone, it is the most obnoxious sounding and smelling contraption I have yet encountered. But he manages to not upset anyone. All about context. If you set out to make noise so that people look at you, bit of a knob. If you make loads of noise, or try and make people jump (pedestrians, car alarms, cyclists, horses) you are an utter knob.

Personally give me a standard can for the road, all really loud pipes do is alert plod to you coming and drive the locals into joining the Republic of Speeding Awareness.

As the for the guy with the Ducati .... nice, looking at one myself

Nice Muscle there too.

To be fair I do roll the bike to the end of my Cul-de-sac, so that the initial, "blast", is on the main road and not near my immediate neighbours, just the rest of the street (who I don't live next to)

On a Good note, we have a huge set of gates at the back of the house, just incase of a Zombie invasion ....

..... and the wife can hear me from the main road, so by the time I'm up the Cul-de-sac, the gate are open for me, wickedly good. That would never happen if I was as quiet as can be.

As for my exhaust being responsible for changing Government Policy ..... couldn't give a toss ..... the Government is going to do what they want, when they want, and there is nothing anyone can do about it, so don't try.

You think I like Electric Bikes and cars .... ahhhh .... it won't save the planet, but someone is gong too make a lot of money out of it, so it's happening whether we like it or not.

I'm old enough to watch (1973) (as a kid) as people were made to wear helmets, I've watched as the test for bikes has become harder and harder, how bikes have been slowed down, how speed limits have been vastly restricted, we used to have unrestricted speed limits, then they brought in the 70mph, which for Modern Bikes and Cars, now days is stupidly slow. I remember my father being pulled over for drink driving and the policeman asking if mum could drive us all home instead .... don't think that would happen now.

Whats going to happen is going to happen ...... so I don't care what anyone thinks

I'm just going to keep on announcing my arrival everywhere I go. Neighbours won't say anything, they are too busy smoking weed, I don't care what they smoke, do what they want. The other side drives an Electric car (yes you read that right) and is too busy furloughed sunbathing, and having been eating for the last 3 months he can't get out of his chair to complain.

So my biggest problem ..... is grounding out the exhaust

So, until then .... its business as usual, posing on a Harley ......

The picture of the grounded exhaust confirms my prejudices about HD. How can the exhaust hit the ground when you have such massive chicken strips ie how st is the ground clearance on your bike?
I rented an HD whilst in the US a while back. It was called a Sportster, or Sports something. Apparently had a high ground clearance than other models. I grounded it out on the very first bend, I kid you not. Gutless too. And very low quality build and components. Rubbish.

Same. 2 blocks from the dealership we took the exhaust bracket off an 883 sportster.

They really aren't - we have two women near the two local schools who delight in riding past them at 3.30 every day causing mayhem - actually a convoy of noisy bikes might solve that.

They dont. When you buy a Harley they are just as quiet as any other bike. The Harley dealer will quite happily relieve you of another £2000 or so for an exhaust with no baffle, a K&N filter and a remap....although this must be sold as aftermarket with various disclaimers.
So not legal then!

I have seen so many loud HD I thought they had some sort of noise exemption.

Ploddy must be pulling them over all the time for noise, not speed.laugh

No more legal than you or I removing the baffles from our exhausts...and surely easy prey for plod spot check and producer.

...im sure in years to come it will be a none issue, with everything either being electric or banned.

How do you modify a horse to make it illegal and have the ability to piss people off in their gardens 2 miles away ?

I think this thread illustrates the problem.

It's fairly clear that legislation will gradually come in that at best will put limits on bikes, and at worst will ban it them together. But people seem to double down rather than work towards a positive outcome.
Cites please. Or are you just making this up?
