Plus it must have actually taken a lot of bottle to turn your back on a sport that you excel at. Yes, he has a lot of money now but is still ridiculously young with a lot of life left so why not take time out, newly married, kid.
Its taken balls to do what he has done.
I think its both potentially depending on what way you look at it. Yes its courageous because he could easily just keep racing round in circles and get a paycheck, but its also 'cowardly' because he is turning his back on racing rather than trying to keep going until his body can no longer handle it like Schwantz, Doohan et al. Its courageous because he's not doing what's expected of him but its "selfish" because he could still be a father and a husband and still contribute a lot to the world of racing, not just by riding but by being an ambassador etc. Its taken balls to do what he has done.
My feelings about Stoner are mixed. I don't think he's the kind of guy I'd like to have a beer with, esp compared with the other racers, as he seems to be a bit of a th!cko, at least in interviews [dont hate - it was Pete Boast who said 'most racers are thick as sh!t], but perhaps thats just shyness or his default laconic nature.
Sad to see the guy go regardless because he's one of the greats imo. If he was switching to V8 Supercars or trying Le Mans or WRC (he's probably a tad too old for F1 right now in this era), then I wouldn't mind him going but I think he'll probably just disappear forever basically after this season.

I would class Lorenzo as better than Rossi but, Rossi next year will be massively fired up and we cannot rule out how much that will affect him/influence him.
Why would you class Lorenzo as a bette racer than Rossi? Not picking, as he's brilliant, just wondering. On the occasion Spies qualified well and was up the front, he was often ahead of Lorenzo before usually bowing out, but I just think Rossi has that extra something. Cataluyna was an incredible race.Just based on his pure consistency i think. Cant really explain it, i just think he is at the moment but Rossi has had no mojo so it will be exciting again next season!
Just watching him over the past few seasons has been mesmerising but in a totally different way to watching Stoner.
I know what you mean about Spies but he hasn`t done the job and now probably never will!
Rossi i am hoping will have a new lease of life with the move back to yamaha but it does bring back a massive debate. Rossi vs Lorenzo, a debate that poor Lorenzo i feel will never win in. If Rossi wins races and the title then a lot of folks will then condemn Lorenzo to being st again and if vice-versa then it will be because Rossi didnt gel/Burgess not being there etc, not because Lorenzo is better.

I will be pleased to see VR on a bike he can ride to his ability again, hats for sure.
As for another title, I think thats a bridge to far now. JL has really matured into a very steely and capable world champion. I think he will be extremely hard to beat - just look at his consistancy this year.
Im also not sure how many changes VR and JB will be alloweed to make to the bike to make it VR's.
Cannot see Dovi doing anything ith the current version of the GP12/13, really not his style to ride it like CS.
I do hope the Ducati have learnt fromthis horrible affair, and that they can learn from the mistakes made, move on, and create a bike that works for more than one rider.
MGP does not need to lose another Factory right now.
I also hope Cal gets a good ride, but I also ould love to see RDP have a ride on the Tech 3, as I think he can still go well.
All bodes well for next year, thats for sure.

Yeah, I understand that. I just hope for some classic racing...and I sooooooo wish Stoner would change his mind! I've tried to like Lorenzo, but I can't! I've warmed to Stoner loads, but Gormless George is just so.Just watching him over the past few seasons has been mesmerising but in a totally different way to watching Stoner.

Agreed, but who will Yamaha favour for the development direction, could cause some dabtes in the garage . . how different are their set ups and who will win the direction debate for development...
Who's bringing the big money .the only reason Yamaha have taken Rossi back is they need money , they dont have a title sponsor Rossi will bring that , they already have their No. 1 rider who beat rossi easy in 2010 Rossi is not in the same league as Loppy now with speed and consistency .
now we just need Ducati to offer Stoner a huge pay check and get him back for a 1 year deal to smoke Rossi again riding the Ducati , would make great racing

The bike didn't work for Stoner! He may have won a championship, but the bike or the manufacturer didn't work for him. Why the fk did you think he moved on?
I'm not a Stoner fan by any stretch, but he did far more with his talent for Ducati, than Ducati did for him.
I think Rossi has now learnt that lesson

no way would Stoner "smoke" Rossi riding the Ducati the way it is todaynow we just need Ducati to offer Stoner a huge pay check and get him back for a 1 year deal to smoke Rossi again riding the Ducati , would make great racing

I don't think he would go back, he made enough rumblings using words like family and chucked out, early in the season.BadgerBenji said:
