If they can't see the headlight of an adventure bike they're not going to see the wker lights either -
I know what you mean about being seen - there are cases where you must rely on other people not just pulling straight out on you, but an extra pair of spots won't help.
Having spotlights that are too bright or adjusted so they dazzle is obviously wrong. However, I've seen studies that suggest that a single headlight makes it harder for other motorists to judge approach speed. At the very least there's plenty of conflicting information out there, so I'm quite comfortable in using my correctly adjusted spots when I think they'll help me be seen, and I'm probably annoying less people than the guy with the fkoff-loud exhaust who "wants drivers to be able to hear him coming"I know what you mean about being seen - there are cases where you must rely on other people not just pulling straight out on you, but an extra pair of spots won't help.
Well they say all good things come to an end...
Every race of my championship this year I've won, going strength to strength in fitness and speed and decided to do another club race Sunday 26th June with a different club (non member)
They mixed twin shock, pre 85 and FMX (Female Mx) together but scored different. Never experienced that before to see a dozen women all on the start line pushing for a top spot which was actually nice and they were proper funny on the start line pre race chatting
Anyways first race my ol' Maico got 1st to the corner but within a lap red flag due to one of the FMX crashing hard. Restart and I gate 2nd and absolute hats off had the fastest FMX has the lead on her husky 250. My competition was racing a twin shock special I forget the name but 580cc 4 stroke single
I passed her in third lap and had to chat after in pits as I said she was amazing to watch with the commitment at times
My Maico 490cc took the win first race
Second race for the holeshot (first to the corner) and the top FMX was third with the 580 twin shock on my case but dropping back after a couple laps. I won that with a good gap and felt chuffed to pieces. My old man said a lot were commenting about the 1981 bike going round the track and running ahead of the modern stuff and everything else which made me feel real proud
Last race starts again great start with the lead, track was quite rough by this point but no issue just a better choice of lines. Coming round for the end of first lap going up final hill there is a small uphill jump before a land hander. I hit as I did every lap and race before but the bike kicked out sideways, I tried my best to straighten it in the air but when it landed given the old bikes weight it flicked back straight hard while I was gripping right and 'pop'. Instantly I knew I'd done something bad from the immediate pain. As I went up the straight with my right foot slightly off the peg I took the left and final right thinking I'll pull in. I put my foot down only for my right foot to completely collapse and fold out. I'd snapped my leg.
The pain was... Well... Interesting and after a lot of screaming and running out the gas and air I was in hospital for stronger stuff. Temp cast for 2 days before surgery and a metal plate. I snapped both my tib and fib
I've now been discharged after 5 days in there and feeling very swollen and very sore. It has been very hard with my wife and kids and very much a reality check that I'm 40 not 25 with work and family commitments.
I'm going to be at least 8 weeks before I can put any weight on it and 6 months before I can compete... And that's if I feel I should and if it's morally right given the stress I've put family in again
I've broken a lot of bones over the years and took 7 years out of Mx in 2014 due to a snapped femur and hip. Part of me wants to give it up but I love racing and competing
I guess I have 6 months to think that through if not just keep to the road bikes and track days (maybe a bit of tarmac racing)
Wasn't sure whether to post this and I'm sure many see no relevance on this to road but I do both and try keep active on here
Anyways hopefully 8 weeks and I'll get a boot on for some road riding

Well if you're gonna do it, do it proper.
Been loving your race reports,as a ex Mx 'er , although not very good , I am very interested in how you managed to do so well especially on a vintage twin shock maico, time however is not kind, and we don't have the same bodies the older we get than in youth.
I'm sure you'll want to ride again , but certainly wish you a rapid and easy recovery .
Just not sure you should.
