Well unless BMW really doesn't want to use the halo of the 1000 to extend its range to a much bigger market volume, absorbing yet more overheads, wiping a smile off the big H and Yamaha, I'd be more surprised if there's not a few mules out somewhere getting ready for a launch. A £5 says I'm right.
I'm not sure that I saw a report saying BMW were looking at a 3 cyl 675cc job (surprise surprise )...and by the way I can't believe that a thread about some 4 wheel motoring journo learning to ride a bike has sparked 270 (+1) replies over 14 pages !

Cars for show, Bikes for a Pro.
That'd make a good shirt slogan, no?I'd buy one (as long as you don't alter the wording AT ALL)....and you can hold me to that.

No, it's something said by people who have crashed/dropped their bike to make themselves feel better.
Quiet you! In the interests of full disclosure, I was riding to a mate's house, which is at the top of a bloody massive hill, then you have to turn right in to his road. I'd been riding for, ooo, about 45 minutes (as in, 45 minutes after my Mod 2), slowed to turn. Slowed LOTS because of the hill, wobbled, foot out, no hope, SMASH. Tears. Swearing. Laughing from mates. Bastids.

72 actually iirc
There's a reason that the minitwins class power limit is 72 - and that's because it's unlikely they'll be 72 from the shop.My curvy needed a good few tweaks to get it there.
While I dislike the SV generally, I did fine I improved my racing a fair bit when I was racing it.
In all seriousness Chris, I am really interested in hearing of your progress through your biking career.
I am interested in hearing about;
I am interested in hearing about;
- the first time you ride a big bike,
- the first time you filter for miles ,
- the early stages when you get frustrated that you can't ride a bike as well as you can drive a car
- your first track session when it really 'clicks'
- your first Euro tour
Enjoy the biking, I took the test three years ago and don't think I'll look back even if I do come into the sort of money that will enable me to drive the cars I really want.
Get a bike and head off to the mountains no other driving experience comes close (for me) and its relatively cheap.

One piece of advice from a fellow late starter in motorcycling....learn to deliberately counter steer. This is the one technique that you will be missing, and the one I expect that you will need most.
I'm a serious car lover, but nothing beats the natural cornering that you get on two wheels. Flow = motorbike. Welcome to a sport that will involve you in travelling from A to B with a massive smile on your face.
I'm not a talented rider, but I have such amazing memories of riding a Honda SP1 through rain and hail storms in North Wales.
I ride with my eyes open and I get very, very few surprises from car drivers/other road users.
You are going to friggin' love it!
